You'll need to replace the rotors as well on that volkswagon. Why? Its the way that particular brake system is designed. Advance auto parts has a good selection of parts and the prics aren't bad. If it were my car, I would just go with wearever gold pads and the o.e. rotor. Good luck

yes, generally you would want to replace the rotors on that car.the rears typically wear out before the fronts. as in, usually the 2nd change of the rears is when you need to change the fronts.that car has a brake pad sensor on the front pads. when the light comes on that is orange/yellow and looks like ((0)) that means you need pads.meyle is an aftermarket parts brand. their stuff is usually cheaper (pricewise) and quality is decent. we sell their stuff. just a regular brake pad, nothing special. not sure if that's what you were looking for, but i wouldnt spend the $ on it unless you need pads.[Edited on June 30, 2010 at 5:06 PM. that's what the wear indicator light looks likealso, for the rears, you need the tool that turns the piston as it pushes it in. [Edited on June 30, 2010 at 5:05 PM. Reason : and i think the MKV uses a big ass torx bolt for the carrier.. so you need a large torx bit too]

so you think i need to replace the rotors too? how do i tell..

Measure the rotors with a caliper and cross reference your measurements with the safe operating range. If it's below the safe operating range, or very close, replace them. Also, visually inspect them for cracks or fractures. Shouldn't be an issue, but you never know... [Edited on July 1, 2010 at 1:16 AM. Reason : .]

Did you mean micrometer.

^^you realize you just typed all that out to a woman, right?

If I find a woman who knows how to mic rotors, I'm gonna marry her......provided she doesn't have one longer than me

silly question but these prices are for each pad? or does each mean a set, like a set of front (2 pads) or a set of backs (2 pads)
7/9/2010 11:38:47 AM
^^a set is 4 pads, 2 for each rotor (inner and outer surfaces).the price is for a set. one set for the back, one set for the front. and the fronts almost always cost more (usually a larger pad).[Edited on July 9, 2010 at 11:44 AM. Reason : head smack]

umm so in laymans terms, i just need to order one of each of these? and it'll cover all 4 wheels?http://www.blauparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=D2A1026%2DEhttp://www.blauparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=D2A5508%2DE
7/9/2010 12:01:14 PM
yup, that'll do ya.
7/9/2010 12:18:28 PM
that is correct. one pad set for the front, one for the rear. each set has 4 pads (2 per wheel).i know a lot of vw people use autohausaz, ecstuning, and mjmautohaus to buy parts (you asked for suggestions in the first post)or, if you'd like, i can get you some pads in 1-2 days (depending on local availability). i think i may still have front pads/rotors in stock for a mk5 jetta, but they were ordered for a tdi (i would have to check the part number for compatibility, and i would need to know your year and engine). the pads i have on the shelf are mintex. i can get meyle also (the ones you linked to) and i will match that price (you would have to pay tax, but not shipping)[Edited on July 9, 2010 at 12:22 PM.
