I got paddle shifters and I like to shift down when I'm rolling down hills in order to avoid speeding up and to avoid wear on my brakes. Does this hurt my engine?

So you have an automatic transmission then. Don't waste your time it's not helping you at all With your vehicle I wouldn't engine brake unless you're doing a lot of driving in the mountains with steep grades.
