Can you use any old mix in a frozen drink machine or is there some sort of magic ingredient in the shitty mixes that come with the machine that is necessary?

What's wrong with a blender?
6/21/2010 2:47:47 AM
Blender won't make a large enough batch. I'm going to be using one of these bad boys:

it's like an icee machine with alcohol involved.i approve

Yeah that still doesn't make enough in a single clip for what I'm doing though. The rental ones make something like 100 drinks at one time
6/21/2010 3:15:09 AM
lol - big party or just a drunk? And how much to rent
6/21/2010 3:19:55 AM
Big party Cheapest price I've found so far is $135 for one that can make two different flavored drinks at the same time.

[edit: I'm an idiot, thought that was purchase price ]Some of these machines are freaking NICE. Cecilware has one that holds 5 gallons of ready drink, and another 5 on standby. Then it auto-fills and chills when running low on beverage [Edited on June 21, 2010 at 3:30 AM. Reason : a]

Yeah I wish I had a couple $1000 to blow on one just to keep it around for whenever I want a slurpee haha.Spending $135 to have one at the beach for the weekend should be nice though

I've got a couple good frozen drink recipes for machines like that. A margarita and a painkiller.Let me know if you want them. You can pretty much come up with your own, but you have to make sure you have a certain amount of water/liquids over alcohol so it will actually freeze. Other than that, use your imagination.

Dunno what company you looked at, but a friend of my brother has those things for rent through his company...he brought it to his 30th. I could ask so you can see if it's cheaper

^ That would be awesome thanks!^^ Yeah that would be a BIG help. I'm mainly trying to get an idea of proportions so like you said, the stuff will actually freeze

I'm going to stop by that bar tonight and get the recipe. However, off the top of my head, this is what I remember it being:- 2 1L bottles of gold tequila- 2 1L bottles of silver tequila- 2 1L bottles of triple sec (get the one with alcohol in it)Now this is where it gets fuzzy. I definitely know the alcohol is correct:- 1 gallon of sour mix (99% sure this is right)- 3 pints glasses of sugar mixed with 7L of hot water (this makes your simple syrup...and I'm 100% sure on this)- The OJ is where it gets confusing. I want to say it's 3 gallons. I think I'm getting the amount of OJ put in the painkiller and the margarita mixed up. I still feel like it's either 3 or 4 gallons though.- And there's the lime juice. I'm fairly positive it was 4 pints of 100% lime juice.Again, I'll go by the bar tonight and check and make sure.

Awesome thanks I figure we'll probably end up doing margaritas and something like strawberry daiquiris.

The Painkiller recipe is even better.I worked at a bar on the beach and we had two machines, one margarita and one painkiller. We probably sold more painkillers at a 3 to 1 ratio. Ingredients were rum, OJ, pineapple juice, coconut concentrate, and grated nutmeg on top. And we used Sailor Jerry's rum, which has a higher alcohol content. You drink a couple of those, and you are well on your way to being fucked up. I'll get that recipe as well.Oh...and have some Grand Marnier on the side for the Margarita's for a floater. And Myers's Rum on the side for a floater with the painkiller.
6/22/2010 10:06:19 AM
floater? I'm used to sidecar? same/similar?
6/22/2010 10:28:16 AM
Just drink hard liquor. None of that sweet shit.
6/22/2010 10:29:08 AM
A "floater" is when you just add some liquor to the top of the drink. So it essentially "floats" on the top. Grand Marnier floaters are fairly common on margaritas.

Anyone know of a place in Wilmington that rents these out? I've been searching on Google but information is pretty sparse.

A mezcal floater is where it's at.Sadly, it's difficult to find mezcal in the delightful state-run abc stores here.

I quite like mezcal

We have a double slushy making machine at work, last party they put 5 handles of absolut and 1 can on tang powder. Surprisingly it did slushify, but it was nasty.[Edited on January 13, 2011 at 7:33 PM. Reason : .]
