sorry for the short notice but just found out my friend from DC is driving in today and wants to meet up for dinner and check out downtown raleighany suggestions for a good meal, good vibe, but not over $10 a dish? I'm looking for somewhere around Fayetteville Street area not Glenwood Souththese are some that I know of, and I am leaning towards Big Easy, Remedy Diner, Tir Na Nog, or La Volta. I am def not going to overpriced BBQ at The Pit.The Pit - BBQ Big Easy - Cajun Zydeco - Cajun Tir Na Nog - Irish Oxford - British Caffe Luna - cafe Busy Bee - cafe Remedy Diner - Vegan Buku - Fusian Dos Taquitos - Mexican La Volta - Italian Jibarra - Mexican Sitti - Lebanese Sono - Japanese Woodys - Tavern Angelos - Italian Raleigh Times - bar/cafe

Skip the big easy, or check it out beforehand to see if you can stomach it: It's gone WAAAY downhill. My sister chose it for her graduation dinner the last weekend in May; when you walk in, the place just fucking REEKS of filth (specifically, old grease and filthy mopwater). I buried my face in my boobs til dinner came (which was deplorable and disgusting and I sent it back after two bites - one from the edge, and another in the middle.) because I had perfume on

How is The Pit overpriced bbq? You can get the pulled pork platter with two sides (and a good helping of bbq) for $11.99. That's not much of a difference over $10.Anyway, that was gonna be my recommendation.[Edited on June 17, 2010 at 10:34 AM. Reason : .]

The Pit sucks. That is all you need to know about that. Of your choices, I'd roll with Busy Bee, Tir Na Nog, or Dos Taquitos depending on what you're into.

this thread amazes me on so many levels
6/17/2010 10:51:25 AM
armadillo grill yum
6/17/2010 10:51:55 AM
lol but you'll eat overpriced food at half of those other places
6/17/2010 10:52:39 AM
Did Armadillo Grill move?If not, read the thread, n00b:

i've always loved the big easy the 3 times i've been there.....the best cajun i've had in town and the most recent trip was a couple of weeks back....well the stuff i've had there before was oyster salad, jambalaya, and lump crabmeat pastafor bbq, i'd rather have cheaper and better bbq at Coopers of Holy Smokes[Edited on June 17, 2010 at 11:09 AM. $10/plate is pretty low, so i'm going to ignore that.duck and dumpling. delicious chinese/thai food, not too expensive (less than $20/plate), great restaurant, right in moore square.
6/17/2010 12:54:36 PM
^ good suggestion. Great to sit outside and people watch too with a glass of wine.
6/17/2010 1:00:24 PM
I'm a big fan of Sitti. Also I'd like to try Jibarra, which seemed like a pretty cool place the one time I've been there for a drink. However that might fail the $10/dish test, but don't be chintzy now. You'eve got a friend coming in, take them somewhere good.
6/17/2010 1:04:16 PM
Sitti mmmmmmmm kafta
6/17/2010 1:16:12 PM
yall telling me everything in downtown is above $10/plate? then downtown def needs more down to earth price dining....is there even a ordinary chinese restaurant/takeout in downtown?if not i'm gonna open one up
6/17/2010 1:20:05 PM
not on fayetteville st, but porters on hillsborough updated their menu to have north carolina favorites and only NC beers on tap. The place has a very nice atmosphere inside. I got shrimp nachos and my gf got shrimp and grits and both were excellent. Each entree was only 7.99 too.
6/17/2010 1:23:43 PM
^^ Do you want nice/trendy or cheap? choose one.Maybe take your friend to roast grill if you want to be cheap.
6/17/2010 1:31:14 PM
$10/plate for a friend that's coming into town and wants to check out downtown raleigh? Really?$10 a plate is Zaxby's moneyMost of the places I would suggest have already been suggested (Sono, Dos Taquitos, Jibarra) but all are well over $10 a plate, especially Jibarra
6/17/2010 1:31:25 PM
tir na nog? fuck no
6/17/2010 1:32:26 PM
take them to harris teeter, you can get ramen for yourself and some oats for your friend's horseseriously though remedy is a good bet, not quite sure i'd call it "vegan" as much as "vegan friendly," my favorite sandwich there includes turkeyflesh
6/17/2010 1:33:40 PM
I won't ever eat at Big Easy again. Got some overpriced shrimp pasta that was served with tail-on, chewy, overcooked shrimp. Half of them were only partially de-shelled. I'd rather not have to get my fingers all up in my pasta to eat it if I can help it.And it quite often smells like vomitThe Pit is good. Raleigh Times has pretty good burgers too.

i've heard great things about Sittii can't believe i've never eaten there. seems like anytime one of my friends goes there, i'm busy that night. soon though...
6/17/2010 2:02:22 PM
Big Easy is always a let down.Duck and Dumpling is out that way as well.
6/17/2010 3:04:30 PM
don't know what my friend is smoking but she wants STEAK....is there a steak place around fayetteville? maybe Oxford? Mint is too pricey and again no Glenwood South please (Sullivans, Bogarts)..we want to walk
6/17/2010 3:41:15 PM
good steak dinner for under $10
6/17/2010 3:48:26 PM
The cheapest steak at The Oxford is $16.50. You need to kick that $10/entree' bit to the curb, especially at The Oxford..
6/17/2010 3:58:09 PM
more like i need to kick my friend to the curbbut srly.....what other places serve steak besides Oxford
6/17/2010 4:13:16 PM
the lamb shank at Sitti is fucking delicious. (they also have steak, i dont remember the price)Raleigh Times is also a good choice, as is Dos Taquitos Centro]
6/17/2010 4:17:39 PM
6/17/2010 4:23:38 PM
Remedy is cheap and delicious, and not all vegan.
6/17/2010 4:25:47 PM
you are being too picky to be able to find a place. ive had 2 steaks at oxford before and wasnt impressed. mint is too expensive, even for me. what is now in the place of fins? im sure they will have steak thereyou need to expand your boundries to glenwood south, they have a lot more selection. you can always take the R-Line downtown after you eat.
6/17/2010 4:34:06 PM
nobody should ever expand their boundries to glenwood south
6/17/2010 4:41:57 PM
Caffe Luna - cafe Italianone of my favorites, but idk if they have much for less than $10. More like $15 range. But I'm pretty sure they have steak.I know it's been mentioned, but $10 isn't very realistic imo. Especially if she's talking about steak now.
6/17/2010 5:07:28 PM
LOL.....I don't have anything against GW South.....it's just that the GW South area doesn't give her the real downtown proper feel......and I don't want to spend time to wait for R-Line...we want to walk around Fayetteville area after we eat
6/17/2010 5:07:29 PM
dammit she picked Oxford for steak.....help me sway her to Sitti instead
6/17/2010 5:16:40 PM
Busy Bee has good burgers, comes with a side for $8-$9
6/17/2010 5:18:23 PM
The Oxford sucks. Period. That should sway her.
6/17/2010 5:20:33 PM
i am telling her either raleigh times, remedy diner, or sittishe better cave in
6/17/2010 5:22:48 PM
6/17/2010 7:47:43 PM
Gravy is pretty awesome as well. Steak is $25.On Sundays they have unlimited meatballs for $9.
6/17/2010 7:51:40 PM
I'm looking for a place downtown that serves a decent filet mignon, but in the $ 8-9 range. Help me tww.
6/17/2010 8:04:22 PM
just by chance i'm going to host a filet mignon lobby for 1000 Microsoft points, plz let me know if you are interested
6/17/2010 9:26:49 PM

6/17/2010 9:39:45 PM

6/17/2010 10:05:17 PM

6/17/2010 10:12:29 PM
