any recommendations? CL has tons of 'certified' mechanics that are overcharging like whoa, just want a better idea of the proper labor cost, parts cost, time required, best shop to have it done at.thanks

unless a miracle happens, i won't be having tww work on my car. principal dictates this decision.
6/15/2010 2:17:32 PM
principle? i'd trust dan with any car, much more than some stranger from CL
6/15/2010 2:30:31 PM
^^ You're a fool then. Enjoy getting burned by some sketchy Craigslist mechanic.
6/15/2010 2:54:00 PM
I have been known to perform miracles every now and then. But a tranny flush usually doesn't qualify. I also usually don't recommend them. Fluid/filter change is adequate, followed by a fluid change every 15k to 20k miles. Get rid of nasty shit gradually...

Then you need to meet me.
6/15/2010 7:42:16 PM
Yes, I avoid flushes as well. I do pull a line on my personal car while it's running and let it drain a bit, but any transmission I don't know so well get's a filter and a top off, repeated every 30,000 miles without fail.

Not everyone on this site is a fucking retard. Zxappeal does just as good (or better) work as any shop mechanic you could find, and for less money.

Go take it to the dealer or Phil's Toy Store. You will pay, but you will get what you want, especially if it includes a fucking without the kiss.
6/16/2010 1:17:12 PM
ok well if the only guy here you guys would recommend curses at me when I ask about being insured, and accountable should he make a mistake, I guess I was right about not actually hiring one of you to do the work. thanks for being honest and direct with regards to the amateur way you go about your livelihood. I am not in the wrong for wanting a professional working on my car, because while they may not care about me either, at least they care about maintaining their reputation enough to have a shop, insurance, the proper tools, certified mechanics, and a good attitude when dealing with perspective clients. apparently you have none of those.
6/16/2010 1:35:06 PM
Son, if you come in here bitching about the high prices listed on a board like craigslist, and then lay out your demands that can only be met by a high priced shop, then what do you expect? A kiss AND a reacharound? Keep looking; you might find what you're looking for, even if it's not here.

summary: guy asks garage for advice. garage gives different advice. guy clarifies. garage makes assumptions and begins belittling guy. guy further clarifies, still maintaining an open mind. garage tells guy more crap that makes no sense, and further berates guy, this time using foul language.guy tries one more time for a clear answer, gets 'go fuck yourself' in return. guy explains how mystified he is by so much angst over wanting professionalism. garage turns to google to seek definition of professionalism.THE END

The thing is, ZX has worked professionally in local shops and is far more experienced than most of the people working in any shop that we can recommend to you. In addition, he has had his hands on a lot of TWWer's cars and, to the best of my knowledge, all of us have been very satisfied with his work. He does have somewhat of a reputation at stake here and I feel like he would do his best to make things right if he did somehow cause an issue. So you want a shop recommendation? There are plenty of threads asking for shop recommendations already. Do a search. The service station at the corner of Avent Ferry & Gorman seems to get some good press from quite a few users, but they have also received some bad press from a couple of users.

^^none of that was known to me before, it's all be rawr rawr rawr take me at face value or fuck you rawr rawr rawr have fun with CL scammers rawr rawr rawrI have never had the intention of hiring someone from CL, it's like asking someone from the Springer show for relationship advice, I know all that. I was asking the whole time for advice on a shop to go to, and how much i should expect to pay. I don't want to hire someone "on the side", I could go that route with friends without coming here. my car is important enough that i want professionals dealing with it, not my friends or internet buddies. reason is simple enough, I don't want something bad to happen, and have to go after my friends to fix the fuck up, or somehow recoup my loss from someone i only know via the internet. this isn't rocket science, it's called knowing your luck and not pressing it.let me also remind you ALL, I was polite, I never cursed anyone out, I appreciate the sparse help that did appear in this thread, but no, I don't think coming to 'the garage' was anymore of a help than just posting it in chit chat, seeing how much hate you gentlemen have.skack, ragged, and beethead - you aren't posting in the spirit of the subforum, and you need to shape it up...where the hell do you get off trolling people in a serious forum? does their trolling not bother the masses of decent people here?[Edited on June 16, 2010 at 2:18 PM. If you let anyone except the dealer change a lightbulb you're taking a huge gamble. I wouldn't risk it. Be sure to buy nothing but OEM parts, too.

hey, fuck you dicki can send you to a shop that is filled with morons, or i can suggest this guy that knows what he is talking about. i've never had dan work on my car, because i do my own work. i HAVE, however, been on this forum with him for 9 years or so, and seen, several times, examples of where he knows what he is talking about.you want us to give you a price on a service from a shop without looking at the car? maybe stop being lazy and try.. i know this sounds stupid.. CALLING A FUCKING SHOP.if you want a moron in a shop, let me know, i can refer you to severalif you want a shop, try griffins transmission (good guys, know whats up)if you want it done right and cheaper than a shop, call dan.my bad for trying to help you out.[Edited on June 16, 2010 at 2:28 PM. real talk tho, what does a paintjob cost these days? i am too lazy to bother a reputable shop about this.
6/16/2010 2:59:31 PM
About $400 at maaco for the cheap stuff I believe. It's a lot of work. For a "good" paint job to rival the factory finish, figure $1000 or more.
6/16/2010 3:07:42 PM
maaco are the ones that leave dirt in the paint job, and don't clear coat, right?
6/16/2010 3:14:56 PM
i know this guy.he has a "shop".he'll show you his "insurance" papers.he'll fix your car and give you a new paint job for $100.true story.
