just looking at the grosses of movies worldwide,http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/world/its clear that with more movie theaters in more countries, that studios can increase their budgets and still make considerable profitsalso bad movies have a better chance of making profitsbut this is the case for many types of industries, with more customers worldwide, businesses can spend more on R&D to hopefully create a better product

I wonder what effect if any the gaming industries growth will have on the movie industry.
6/13/2010 2:36:18 PM
^actually the effect of increased worldwide customers will have a much bigger impact on the gaming industry than the movie industry just because of how realistic games are very dependent on the size of the budget

More gigantic blockbusters like the A-Team and Transformers? How about spending $200 Million on a team of writers to come up with a decent plot.

the flip side to this is that movies seem to generally cost more, and im not sure its all due to monetary inflationRobin hood 1991 cost $50 mil ------ Worldwide Gross $390,500,000Robin hood 2010 cost $200 mil------ Worldwide Gross $271,596,290 currentlynot good[Edited on June 13, 2010 at 9:21 PM. This top-notch analysis brought to you by lafta.

^^^Well, the recent Robin Hood is fucking terrible. That might have something to do with it.
6/13/2010 10:23:24 PM
^which raises some questionsthe two movies are very similar yet one cost $50 mil the other $200what did they spend money on?both had A list lead actor and similar settings, etc
6/13/2010 10:35:16 PM
As far as Robin Hood goes, its because its a rehash of some shit that was done 20 years ago. I saw Robin Hood from 90-91, and it wasnt that great, why go see someone try to remake it?

I don't know if I could possibly imagine something more intellectually vapid than lafta discussing the state of the film industry

Why on earth would I pay someone who can't even properly work a DVD rental kiosk $5 to go into detail about the direction of the film industry?
6/14/2010 11:05:03 AM
well if you're dumb enough to DEMAND intellectually engaging discussion in the entertainment section then ^ should make a lot of sense to you
6/14/2010 1:12:36 PM
I didn't demand intellectually engaging discourse at all, I just pointed out that if someone doesn't understand the way a DVD kiosk works they have no business expounding upon the direction of the film industry.
