this is a serious question..... can you not unlock the door with a key and pop the hood?
6/8/2010 8:51:33 AM
^This.
6/8/2010 8:53:51 AM
this is a serious answer. google says no, but I wouldn't know because I have no key. My ignition is all fucked up and I almost broke the key in it one day so the key stays in the ignition and i use the key fob. key fob battery is good. i even put something in the window crack and tried to push the damn lock and it would not open.I know, I'm a fucking retard, should have gotten that fixed, but I have zero money, just finally got a job, and now I can't go[Edited on June 8, 2010 at 9:08 AM. i think its time you get this shit towed to a Ford dealership so they can get the car open and the key out.
6/8/2010 9:09:21 AM
give me the munnies and i will. all i really want is the doors unlocked and a jump right now. i'm figuring out the long term with someone who can loan me a car and money to get this one fixed.
6/8/2010 9:10:45 AM
oK! I jimmied the door with a piece of crown molding after ripping off my rainguard. now all i need is a jump...please????
6/8/2010 9:34:35 AM
you implied in the first post that you have a battery charger, but you are too afraid of exploding yourself to use itnow that the doors are unlocked, you could use the charger to jump start the car, amirite?
6/8/2010 9:43:58 AM
you'll prob get faster results if you call AAA, at least that's what i'd do
6/8/2010 9:44:02 AM
i did not mean to imply that i had a charger. sorry. i am freaking out a bit because it is kind of a big deal that i am not at work. not earth shattering, but it just sucks for a few people.
6/8/2010 9:45:01 AM
oh. then I'd probably call AAAunless its a manual and you're parked facing downhill
6/8/2010 9:51:20 AM
no, i'm not that lucky can you use aaa without being a member?
6/8/2010 9:52:17 AM
if you have jumper cables and will give me money for driving over ill help you out
6/8/2010 10:14:21 AM
i might take you up on that, it's past the point of trying to get to work, so i'm going to see if a neighbor comes home or if a friend is going to come help. what would you ask? I'm off timber drive.
6/8/2010 10:27:00 AM
don't buy a focus/thread
6/8/2010 10:37:25 AM
how in the hell can you fuck up an ignition that bad. it's simple. put key in. turn key. turn key. pull key out. what type of retard shit are you doing?
6/8/2010 10:40:00 AM
6/8/2010 11:02:05 AM
I see lots of people talking shit, but no one actually doing shit.
6/8/2010 11:22:37 AM
^^^Get one of those I think its VWs that have the box thingy you have to have in plus a key to start the car. Most newer keys as they have computer chips in them for verification, are very flimsy. For the OP, electronic lock systems normally need electricity. The fobs dont wirelessly also provide power for the locks to work. This is also why you have 2 keys for your car.

+10 karma points for quinn
6/8/2010 12:21:05 PM
^^ nothing like that from the factory on vws. the stuff ~2000+ does have immobilizer, which is a microchip in the key. there are ways to get around that, tho.[Edited on June 8, 2010 at 12:47 PM. Reason : immob]

6/8/2010 3:06:54 PM
^^^ OK. Im going off of something I remember with a friends VW Cabrio. And how the hell did I doublepost...
6/8/2010 3:16:37 PM
for Quinn from me and my sister! I now have a valet key, although from what I've been reading it won't help. if the batter is completely dead, my locks won't open from the outside. fun stuff. WTG, ford. who decided this was necessary?
6/8/2010 4:13:29 PM
lemme holla at ya sister
6/8/2010 5:50:56 PM
why cant yout get the key in the handle if you have a valet key again.
6/8/2010 6:19:24 PM
I can now, but from what I've been reading if your locks are all electronic then using the key still won't unlock it when the battery is dead. All the key does is connect a circuit or whatever that electronically unlocks the doors. [Edited on June 8, 2010 at 6:59 PM. Reason : and, Quinn, my sister is married, sorry ]

I don't know for sure, I just read it on the internets so it must be true?! Actually, from what I'm reading, it looks like the focus has lots of issues with lock barrels and keys and ignitions all wearing down, and a common problem is for the key to wear down in the ignition, and when you have to use the key to unlock a door, instead of the fob, the key doesn't fit right. so i'm guessing most of what I read about the key not working is probably people putting 2 and 2 together to make 5.
6/9/2010 2:42:15 PM
All you really need is enough power to get the door unlocked - I'd revisit the idea of going underneath, but with a jumper cable and another vehicle. Just clamp the ground side of a jumper cable to something metal on the frame or engine, and the positive side to the alternator output, fuse/relay box input, anything that carries an unswitched +12v. That should energize the system so that someone with the valet key or fob can unlock the door.
6/9/2010 3:28:20 PM
how in the hell did you break your key off in the ignition? what good is a valet key if it can't unlock the door?there just seems to be a lot of facepalm going on here.
6/9/2010 3:45:10 PM
i unocked a focus today with just the key. it was a 2010.
6/9/2010 10:37:22 PM
6/9/2010 10:39:49 PM
Ford actually made a valet key for the Focus? It seems like the Focus owners would be valet instead of using valet service.

my saturn wears out keys with the quickness...i eventually had to go to the stealership and get a new one made because the old one, while it would turn on the car, couldn't be duplicatednow i just keep the stealership copy in pristine condition and get a new one made for $3 every year or so
