it'll be very interesting to see how many power conferences are left in 5 yrs, and how they look.
6/3/2010 4:53:47 PM
That would be a huge slap in the face to Boise St, Utah, and a few of those other teams.

THE DOMINOES WILL FALL[Edited on June 3, 2010 at 9:04 PM. Reason : although come on those schools arent even in the pacific]

6/3/2010 10:11:17 PM
yeah, they'd def have to take PAC out of their name

Texas joining the SEC would make far more sense than the PAC10. And why would the PAC10 want Texas Tech?[Edited on June 4, 2010 at 8:59 AM. Reason : ]
6/4/2010 8:58:09 AM
they'd want texas tech so that they can have a texas/oklahoma division (+ colorado).my question is why would they invite colorado over the teams they left out? i guess just b/c colorado is likely to follow wherever.
6/4/2010 9:11:40 AM
Texas can pick their conference. The money will follow them. I'm not sure they would really get more money joining up the less profitable (and less sports-crazed) Pac 10, which might actually reduce their Southern and East Coast footprint.
6/4/2010 9:32:42 AM
^^^^ ok, that made me laugh. can some conference please take BC and miami off our hands???
6/4/2010 10:00:11 AM
^^^Under the proposed format, ASU & UAz would be in that division too, so it's not really a Texas/OK division. Texas Tech's football program is going down and they do not bring a TV market. I would think there are much better options, like BYU, Kansas, or Utah. Colorado brings the Denver market and it is a better geographical fit. They make the most sense of any big12 team.^^Ya, UT would have to travel far more (with later games) and get less money in the Pac10 than SEC. That's why I don't think it makes sense to join the Pac10. Same deal with Oklahoma.[Edited on June 4, 2010 at 10:44 AM. Reason : ]

Rumblings that this will lead to the ACC's NC schools leaving and joining up with ECU and APP to form the "NC Super Six Conference". This has serious legs according to Garvis.
6/4/2010 11:19:20 AM
I don't see how this would affect the ACC in terms of schools defecting. And I don't see how joining a six team conference with a couple of 4A high schools is going to benefit us.
6/4/2010 11:50:11 AM
that was the dumbest idea thrown out yet.

6/4/2010 2:14:28 PM
Make UNC-Charlotte field a football team and bribe A & T to join. DIVERSITY, BABY!
6/4/2010 2:19:36 PM
yeah lets get in a conference with APP!!! in states worst football season in i dont know how many years, and in the middle of their 3 title run, state beat them by like 2 touchdowns.
6/4/2010 2:21:11 PM
If the Pac 10 takes 6 Big 12 teams, and the Big 11 takes one or two, the remaining teams should join the MWC + Boise State.

If these superconferences translate to basketball as well, things are going to suck for Georgetown, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall, and DePaul. Guess they'll form their own conference, maybe with Villanova (since their fb team doesn't play D-1 anyway), Dayton, and Xavier. Now that would be a strong conference for a 1-sport league.
6/4/2010 3:47:52 PM
Herb missed his one and only shot at a PAC-10 title last yearthere's no chance in hell that he can win a league of 16
6/4/2010 3:48:01 PM
Btw, this is infinitely stupid, unless you take money into account. Then it's like half stupid and half diabolical. Can't wait for those February games between Texas A&M and Washington State. That travel schedule sure makes sense.
6/4/2010 3:54:17 PM
does this make anybody else think of the ncaa tourney expansion? everything is about money
6/4/2010 8:13:37 PM
A business all about money? Get the fuck out of here.
6/4/2010 8:48:28 PM
I'm not sure what argument can be made about this being good for the college game, you're basically just kind of knocking down six major football programs who will all probably have some drop in talent, support now that the big 12 dies and they have to join a lesser conference
6/8/2010 2:43:22 AM
Actually don't think it will affect much either way, as long as traditional rivalries are still played bigger conferences doesn't change up much. It isn't like basketball where when the ACC expanded the home and home was lost and that really hurt ACC basketball(I think). This is great if you are part of the major conferences and are either in an expanding conference or get sucked up. You'll make more money, more TV exposure, occasionally get Texas or Oklahoma to come to your stadium for a game... not to bad of a deal. Travel logistics are fine because they are doing what is essentially 2 mini-conferences with teams grouped by area. My guess is you'll play everyone in your conference 1 time(7 games) and then cross over for 2 games to the other conference so that means you'll prob only make the Texas to West Coast trip one time a year for a conference game.It really sucks for everyone that gets left out of the shuffle when this is all done... those are the teams/fans that will be screwed and complaining. The rich will get richer and the mid majors will be pretty screwed. Imagine how big a Pac-16 championship game could be. I'd tune in to see USC Ok play for a conference title. Just don't think at the end of the day this will affect how I view college football in anyway really though...

You could do the same thing in basketball, have them play round robin with their division for 14 games, then just do 4 cross division games, so they would only be traveling twice in conference. Then when they seed for the basketball tournament, you would seed them based on their rank in division and have it structured like the NBA playoffs, where they champion from the east meets the champion from the west. The tournaments would be played at 2 different sites, and the site that got to host the overall championship game would alternate. So lets say UCLA won the west and Texas won the east, as soon as UCLA wins their tournament after 3 days of games, they get on a plane and head to Dallas for the championship game the next day, or perhaps they could start their tournament a day before everyone else so there could be a day between the divisional finals and the championship game.[Edited on June 8, 2010 at 11:58 AM. I dont think the conference tournament in basketball is a problem considering conference tourny games are played in the same gym. That would blow if you were playing the same teams again in the tourny. Doesnt the SEC tournament do some cross-division seeding?
6/8/2010 12:00:23 PM
Another thing, we might be blowing this whole "it's too expensive" think out of proportion.Somehow this is a functioning conference, and it doesn't have nearly the resources the Pac 10 does.
6/8/2010 12:12:01 PM
Funny how the one in the middle is the only one with a consistent national presence.(memphis basketball)
