Can you pull a gooseneck trailer? Whats the weight limit on your registration?
6/3/2010 9:53:03 AM
no gooseneck atm, and I only did 6000 on registration...dude that I bought it from had 12k but I doubt I'll need all that any time soon
6/3/2010 1:21:56 PM
doubt 6k even covers the weight of the truck.....
6/3/2010 1:56:49 PM
yeah i'm thinkin i'm gonna have to change that but for now it was the cheapest in line at the DMV
6/3/2010 3:14:05 PM
so you got me lookin at hide-away goosenecks...and they're a lot cheaper than I thought if I install it myselfthough I want to replace my plastic bedliner with a spray-in, thinking I should wait till afterward before I go drillin holes in shit[Edited on June 3, 2010 at 5:08 PM. Reason : asdf]
6/3/2010 5:05:53 PM
I would mount it first so the holes can be covered.

lame.

the dmv/shp is NOT screwing around these days with trucks that don't have tags rated for their weight/loads. it sounds like a big chunk of $$ up front, but i assure you it's far cheaper and less hassle than getting nailed for being overweight. if you're rolling around with just a regular passenger vehicle tag on that thing, then you're REALLY asking for a ticket just as is, minus any load. surprised the dmv let it slide, but we all know how things at that place go...[Edited on June 8, 2010 at 9:28 AM. Reason : or, sell it for an suv. pull anything you want on regular tags, i regularly gross 20k+ lol ]

Good callgonna call the DMV today to see if I can "upgrade" my rating without completely re-registering

good heads up, thanks. I called and it'll only be about 70 bucks to upgrade to 12k, but I'm thinkin I might as well go ahead and get 20. The shipping weight on the title is 5700ish (don't remember exactly, something around there), so I'm in the clear unladen but I don't have any headroom
6/11/2010 12:17:09 AM
yup, a suv is considered a passenger carrying vehicle while a pick-up or a cargo van are considered property carrying vehicles.
6/11/2010 6:48:17 AM
I want an Excursion.
6/11/2010 10:45:53 AM
im legal to 17 thousand, my empty truck plus driver weighs 6,800lbs BTW... but with your early cab and 12 valve you might weigh a little less.my average weightstruck- 6,800truck and unladen trailer- 9,000[Edited on June 11, 2010 at 2:17 PM. Reason : once you register over 17k it gets much more expensive]
6/11/2010 2:16:25 PM
alright i'm just looking for a happy medium, doubt i'd do any regular hauling over 17...i'll assume that my truck with driver, toolbox, and full gas tank is about 6300so i'm lookin at 10k payload with a little headroomsound reasonable?only thing i'm worried about now is that my tag doesn't say "weighted" on it anymore, even if i upgrade my rating with the DOT...which makes me think i might be more prone to being pulled over if i'm pulling anything
6/11/2010 4:22:04 PM
Say you wanted to rent one of the little single car haulers from u-haul to transport a vehicle for someone moving a couple hours away. They aren't huge but are very well built, maybe even overbuilt (read- heavier than average) and on top of that they are galvanized which adds a couple hundred pounds. They weigh about the same as my trailer, 2200ish.Your truck (6,300)Trailer (2,200)Gross (8,500)If you are taxed to 10k then that only leaves you 1,500 for payload and damn near any vehicle is at least double that.

that SUV loophole is awesome. If only I liked them. anyway upped the gross to 9k today as a temporary stop to cover my ass if I, you know, decide to throw a dresser in the back or something.
6/21/2010 2:37:37 PM
taking off those side skirts would probably save you 50lbs
