A couple days ago, I lost my driver's license. I'm going on vacation at the end of this week, and with North Carolina no longer providing a license on site, I've had to request that a duplicate be sent my way (takes a week or two). Obviously, the license won't arrive until after I return from vacation.I've already called a couple places and they accept a passport as an ID. It would seem simple and shouldn't be a problem. But have any of you used a passport to go out to bars, on a cruise, etc.? Have you ever been denied entrance? I believe it would be legal to deny entrance as long as there is a consistent policy and they have non-discriminatory practices (Ex. if they have a policy stating they only accept state-issued ID's or driver's licenses), but I'm not 100 percent sure...

Yup, I have also used passports. You should be just fine.

its a federally issued form of identificationits finebut be prepared for some door people to be idiots and act like they've never seen one before

I'm my experience, you'll receive less hassle using a passport for age verification than a driver's license.

i have misplaced my DL on many occasions, and used passport without fail every time.

Just don't be like my cousin and then lose said passport at the bar after you get drunk.

Yes, everyone accepts passport as an ID. I would think it is the most legit ID one can have.[Edited on May 25, 2010 at 9:54 PM. Reason : a]

You would think so. I appreciate the advice! I didn't think it would be a problem, but I was hoping to avoid any surprises.

I was in the same boat about 2 months ago when I turned 25.My passport worked like a charm, however I also had my license shipped to me in less than like 3-4 days.

i knew a guy who had lost his license and his passport had just expired like a month or two before. he was so desperate to go to the bar that he took his original birth certificate and SS card as ID. don't be that guy.

I tried to use my Wake County Handgun Training & Safety Center card at the bar when we realized my ID had expired. It had my photo & was even issued to me by the Sheriff's department!

My passport was rejected once at Harris Teeter, probably because the picture is nine years old.

It was my understanding that passports are one of the only forms of ID still valid for identification purposes even if they're no longer valid for travel.

Maybe they just said they couldn't recognize him because of the old picture.

^^ Yeah, durrIt's amazing considering I don't think my appearance has changed that much since I was 16. You could definitely tell it was me, I even had student IDs, bank cards etc to back it up. I guess the glasses threw them off.[Edited on May 26, 2010 at 1:33 PM. Reason : It wasn't expired anyway, passports are valid for 10 years]
