Andrew Jackson Hotel was nice when we went just after Katrina. Not a lot of frills, but it was nice and clean with a friendly staff and in the French Quarter. Would stay again.

http://thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=579430 will get you started. you can decide whats appropriate for the 2 year old. have fun!! and even though its 'touristy' i go to cafe du monde EVERY time i am in the city (about 6-8 times a year) its worth it!!not sure if its mentioned in the thread, i posted but not reading through it again, a lot of places are cash only so be prepared for that. i know cafe du monde is for sure.
