Is fucking awesome.

its lame that you have to have the disc in to use it. why cant i just fire up the wii and it be an option via a software download
5/20/2010 9:40:34 AM
I was wondering the same thing actually. My only guess was that it was so people could move it from Wii to Wii (like you wanted to watch a flick at a friends house).
5/20/2010 9:42:44 AM
because a Wii has like 512mb of onboard memory
5/20/2010 9:43:35 AM
You will be able to do that by Christmas. Xbox and Netflix were exclusive, but somehow using a disc for Wii and PS3 circumvents the exclusivity deal, which ends Q4 2010 I believe. At that point you'll be able to download and scrap the disc.

5/20/2010 10:40:19 AM
i hear the best resolution you can get on these videos is 640x480 in 256 colorsyou know, cause the Wii's graphics suck compared to 360 and PS3get it
5/20/2010 10:43:08 AM
I don't mind the picture quality so much.. I'd rather have this than be looking at a buffering icon every 30 secondsStreams very nicely right now...
5/20/2010 11:18:43 AM
Streamed an episode of Dexter on it last night and it worked great.
5/20/2010 1:21:58 PM
i'm going to drop the disc in tonight. will report back on how i feel about it. i'm excited about having it on demand for the wii though.i've never had a problem streaming instant watch stuff from netflix.
5/20/2010 8:41:51 PM
5/21/2010 11:18:31 AM
update:had no problem streaming videos last night. already loving not having to plug my computer into the tv.
5/21/2010 2:37:42 PM
same heremost action my wii's seen in like 2 years
5/21/2010 2:45:06 PM
i'll definitely use instant watch much more frequently now.
5/21/2010 2:49:29 PM
Now I'll have two game systems that I only use for Netflix and DVDs (PS3 and Wii).
5/21/2010 3:00:17 PM
So it's just 9 bucks a month and I can stream all the movies I want, right?
5/21/2010 5:43:51 PM
all the movies you want to they have available. not all movies are instant play though.
5/21/2010 6:50:49 PM
good luck getting a good picture on the Wii.
5/21/2010 6:56:51 PM
^Actually its pretty fucking good. For some of the old TV shows that I have played on my plasma, I have little room to complain. For the convenience factor its much better than plugging my computer in to stream.
5/21/2010 7:11:36 PM
the only thing i don't like so far is the very limited selection of viewable movies.
5/24/2010 9:40:26 PM
yah, the movie selection is almost pitiful. But I figure it will get better with time. And I have not even really tried to watch a movie since I got it. Mostly been sticking to X-Files and Doctor Who. Overall, the TV selection is really great and i figure thats what most ppl will use it for.[Edited on May 24, 2010 at 10:33 PM. Reason : ``]

who uses a wii WITHOUT homebrew? why?
5/25/2010 9:02:44 PM
I look at you and pose the opposite question.
5/25/2010 9:09:44 PM
well...i guess i want my wii to be as functional as it can be, especially when unlocking the functionality is free, easy, and quick*shrug*
5/25/2010 9:12:51 PM
I don't install homebrew because there are a million different devices that will do exactly the same thing. Not to mention its against ToS and they legally disable your shit if they catch you. And don't you have to worry about which updates you install? Its a device to play Wii games and some VC stuff. Not much else for me.
5/25/2010 9:20:15 PM
Netflix is awesome. I do wish you could search with it.
5/26/2010 2:55:55 AM
I have actually never even heard of the homebrew channel.
5/26/2010 8:56:12 AM
What is the recommended internet speed in order to take advantage of this?
5/30/2010 11:24:05 AM
5/30/2010 11:31:44 AM
how long can your instant que get? I have so far reached no limit and we have almost 20 items.
6/2/2010 1:12:56 PM
I've got over 90 in my queue right now.
6/2/2010 1:16:51 PM
6/2/2010 2:21:51 PM
^ what do you do with homebrew that makes it worth the hassle?
6/2/2010 2:26:34 PM
^ initially, i did it so that i could play actual video DVDs (i mean, it came with a DVD drive, didn't it?) and set it up to act as a media center (before i had an HTPC, which is obviously more powerful and capable)...it makes a great BASIC media center (which you might enjoy if you don't already have an HTPC)...i know that at one point, the wii (using mplayer ce) would play more videos than the ps3 or xbox 360, but i have no idea about whether that's true now or notdon't get me wrong...there are certainly other devices that do natively what the wii does not...but if you want some additional basic functionality without wanting a full-throttle media center, the wii (with an external hard drive) is a great optionthere are a fair number of useless apps, no doubt, but there are some good ones, too...here's a list of apps, if you're interested: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Homebrew_applicationsthen we get to the possibly dishonest part of homebrew...pirating games...i, for one, feel entitled to every NES, SNES, N64, and GC (among other consoles) game that i paid for, so i download whatever ROMs i want and play them on my wii using the appropriate emulator (http://www.wiiiso.com/emulators.php)...you can also download wii ISOs (if you feel so inclined) and burn them to their own DVD or play them off an external hard drivealso, i'm not sure "hassle" is a good description...it took 10 minutes and i've only updated it onceagain, to each their own[Edited on June 2, 2010 at 3:01 PM. I am either going to get netflix for the wii or PS3. do they both have the same selection of videos? and which one should i get the disc for? ps3 or wii?and what is the point of an instant queue if you can "instantly" watch anything? Can't you constantly add and delete stuff off of it?[Edited on June 10, 2010 at 6:21 PM. Reason : yea]
6/10/2010 6:20:41 PM
^i view the instant queue as more of a reminder list of stuff to watch at a later date. really the order doesn't matter.
6/10/2010 6:51:32 PM
^^ I imagine that you would get a better picture with the ps3
6/10/2010 8:55:02 PM
watching 24 season 1 through our bluray player, and the picture quality is excellent.I really hope the movie selections get better though.
6/10/2010 8:59:13 PM
i have a disc for the ps3 and the wiithe wii is at the gf's place so i dont have to load up the ps3 or use that annoying ass laptop to tv cord
6/10/2010 11:40:25 PM
^^ yeah, i have the same gripe. i just add movies to the instant queue from my laptop and then access that list from the wii. seems to work pretty well.
6/11/2010 12:01:41 AM
i've been trying to find some answers online but most sites say they are the same..which is better, netflix on wii or ps3?
6/11/2010 5:52:33 AM
the 360otherwise, if you have an hdtv and/or the ps3 remote, ps3otherwise, wii[Edited on June 11, 2010 at 7:48 AM. Reason : wait... does the ps3 have access to the netflix hd streams?]
6/11/2010 7:46:55 AM
guess i'll go with the ps3 unless it sucks...then switch to my wii
