like they do in football when they are waiting to down a punt and letting it roll. When a guy loses the ball and is scared to touch tit because people will call traveling but it isn't really traveling.Any pickup game this will be called a travel and guys will dance around the ball but I heard the actual rules ALWAYS allow you to pick up the ball again. You can dribble and if u pick the ball up and fumble it again you can always pick it back up.for some reason people think they need to dance around it if they lost their dribble and fumble the ball again.Clarification please?

the one that always drives me crazy is if people try to call it a travel if someone catches their own airball.
5/19/2010 5:32:08 PM
^ but that is a travel. If you airball, you deserve whatever happens to you next.aside from that, when I ball outside, I especially lol @:charge calls (oh yes, it's happened)over the backpalming10 sec in the backcourtthose make me laugh.

I'm with rally. the omgomg self pass outrage on a shot you launched while getting fouled is always amusing.

^that is a good one.kickball is called way too much.

you guys play some pansy pickup games...COME TO THE PLAYGROUND SONS
5/19/2010 6:48:59 PM
^^^^^^ but that actually is a travel

^Re self-pass, it's different in NCAA in that there is no rule against it.This matters if you play a league game and they are going by HS or NCAA rules rather than NBA rules (likely).

I call fouls like a motherfucker if they deserve them... This is a highly skilled game, not a brawl. If they want to fight we can put the ball away and throw down, but if we are playing ball we are playing bball..

i stopped playing basketball a few years ago but i always subscribed to my 2 rules.1) dont call it unless you know for fucking sure it happened.2) dont back down just because a black guy disagrees with what you know happened.if a black person tries to intimidate me with his call, not only do i not back down i make it personal to the point where i hope he takes a cheap shot at me later. Do not let it go until he feels like a pussy.I fucking hate the "intimidation" calls that make little white kids steer clear of basketball and ill uphold them consistently no matter how nice my car looks in the parking lot.If you take a charge in a pickup game, call a palm, etc though this rule does not apply. This is for the guys out there that always say you stepped out when you go baseline, it was a clean block when you got smoked in the face, or call a foul when the ball is in your hands.Give an inch, take a mile.

the thing is, what defines a shotyou guys are saying a college player can throw himself an allyoop? or if he is stuck in a corner he can throw it up and run and get it? i guess you are saying if he cant beat the other guy he deserves it?

The title of this thread is misleading.

it's called "ghostriding," and my informant tells me that it's what's real on the streets.
5/26/2010 11:56:57 PM
^^^ in college it is called self pass and is also considered illegal. if the ball is knocked away you can get it and continue dribblin if you lose control you may pick it up without dribbling side note- pick up now sucks if its a charge its considered a block whether ya call it or not its a bitch thing just beause there isn't a ref doesnt mean rules fade. i understand not callin a palm, backcourt, 5 seconds ext but a charge should still be valid Though id never call it
5/27/2010 12:23:09 AM
^^ i broke my windshield ghostriding
5/27/2010 2:01:59 AM
^^ i agree the an extent, in some games you get Johnny Out-Of-Control who Mike Alstotts his way through the lane every time down the court. But charge/block calls would never be agreed upon in a pick-up game. I have a feeling there would be quite a few folks from the Coach K school of flops in a close game.[Edited on May 27, 2010 at 8:03 AM. Reason : Still confused by the thread title "when a player dances around the ball"... WTF]
