within the week folks, it is your job to tear it apart and tell me why I should run away.

the front end... the front axle, the knuckles will bend... bad! the 1500 front end hates anything over 33's they might seem fine now but with just daily use they will mess up. It is a good looking truck but the 1500s hate big tires.[Edited on May 19, 2010 at 2:47 AM. Reason : drunk]
5/19/2010 2:46:52 AM
why is that? my tired, half-drunken brain is failing to conceptualize why that would be the casenot arguing the point, just honestly curious
5/19/2010 2:48:22 AM
5/19/2010 3:10:18 AM
ah good call. if nothing else, a bargaining point.
5/19/2010 3:13:31 AM
is it just the increased tire contact area/friction/difficulty in turning big tires at slow speeds that warps the knuckles?
5/19/2010 4:37:59 AM
if the seller says anything about it being a show truck or never off-roaded, etcFUCKIN RUNalso...rear end was replaced?and the pic isnt clear, but are those blocks on the rear axle?
5/19/2010 8:45:13 AM
best way to put it, the axles are not strong enough for those size tires plus the size of the truck. You might get lucky and not have any problems. The Dodge 1500 front axles have a very tall and skinny knuckle compared to their 2500 which has a much more stout knuckle
5/19/2010 2:36:16 PM
5/19/2010 6:21:06 PM
Don't buy a chrysler. You'll be replacing that transmission again in no time and swapping new computers in like candy.
5/19/2010 6:49:35 PM
Junk. Just ask bbr how his 1500 is doing
5/20/2010 10:57:50 AM
this is why i have you guysi was also looking at this onehttp://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/1747121700.htmlwhat do you think? it's priced high but if I could get him to around $5k i'd be interestedbasically what i'm looking for:-extended/king/crew cab, need to seat four adult men-4x4-v8 or comparable diesel (would prefer the latter)-tow package-full size bed (though a short bed isn't a deal breaker)-clean/in good shape-would like duel exhaust, aftermarket wheels/tires, suspension lift, etc. but don't need it-$5500 max budget[Edited on May 20, 2010 at 12:18 PM. 5/20/2010 12:10:01 PM
Too much money. Didn't ctnz71 sell his similar one for about $3500?If you're buying a mid-90's truck with relatively high mileage you'd be doing yourself a favor if you buy a Toyota.
5/20/2010 12:22:09 PM
Here: http://www.nc4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88491Clean Tacoma w/165k miles for $5500 and willing to come down on the price. I think you could possibly do better if you look around a bit, but this could be a really good truck if you can get him to come down a little on the price. As long as you keep it up to date on maintenance and repairs it's not going to ever drop too much below what it's worth right now.[Edited on May 20, 2010 at 12:38 PM. Reason : l]

awesome, thanks, i'll definitely look in to that. I saw the TRD plate on it but didnt notice the factory markings, but 4x4 is a must. v8 is also vastly preferable, or at least a ~5L+ displacement configurationi would love a toyota, it's just so damn hard to find what i want anywhere NEAR my budget cap
5/20/2010 1:16:41 PM
It's got locking hubs, so it should be a 4x4.Why do you need so much displacement? A V6 Yota should be rated somewhere around 5k lbs towing capacity. It might not like 5k, but it'll pull it on occasion just fine. What are you going to be doing with the truck?[Edited on May 20, 2010 at 1:43 PM. Reason : l]
5/20/2010 1:38:15 PM
brakes are usually the limiting factor on your towing anyway. why do you think you need a bigger engine?an i've never seen an extended cab in which a grown man would be comfortable. i also hate giving up bed space for the 4 door cabs. i'd save my money and get a 4 door tacoma. the 4 door dakotas with the 4.7L V6 would also be in your price range, even with 4wd.[Edited on May 20, 2010 at 4:43 PM. 5/20/2010 4:37:20 PM
I've always thought the engines in these trucks sound good. However, this is a ragged out truck that will cost a lot of money down the road. I'd pass if it were my money and get one with less lift and tire. Don't get a Tacoma they're gay.
5/20/2010 5:25:49 PM
that chevy wasnt bad....it was a z71 which means 5.7 L v8 and locking rear differential....tow package is there as well......I have tipped the scales at the rock quarry with our chevy z71 at 15,000 lbs and it pulled it just fine.....

http://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/1757946621.htmldear god i hope he reads my email firstthough I'm wondering about the displacementon occasion I will be pulling a large trailer (think u-haul) full of band equipment with 4 dudes in the cab, is that too much stress on a 3.0 v6?[Edited on May 25, 2010 at 12:52 AM. ^^^the dakota looks really good to me....less miles than the dodge....less ugh than the ^toyota
5/25/2010 2:33:09 AM
heres a secret... stay away from anything thats already been lifted unless you plan on using it as mostly off-road. Get a good stock truck, no matter what any one says its prob been abused if it is lifted and/or has off road type tires. Plus no matter what lift is on an IFS truck you will be paying for new CV's and such in the long run. STOCK TRUCKS are better. Find something that's not lifted or with off-road tires

5/25/2010 5:39:56 PM
naw i need a truck for other applications too, hauling a band trailer is one of the more taxingso, i believe i've talked to enough people that have convinced me to stay away from lifts/oversize tires and chrysler trannys.this is my new target:http://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/1751310449.htmli really wanted diesel anyway, just figured it was a pipe dream. as per JeepMan's suggestion, I'd love a 2nd gen cummins. the one linked above is pretty much everything i could ask for - power, diesel, size, comfort, manual, clean, and purtythink i'd be lowballing if I offered him $6k cash?[Edited on May 25, 2010 at 6:34 PM. DECISION ALMOST FINALI'm about to pull the trigger on this sucker. just need a couple more hours to mull it over, it's a much bigger truck than I need but DAMN I want it...and I can make it happen.
5/26/2010 5:42:10 PM
In my experience rushed decisions on big purchases are usually poor decisions. Based on the language of your post, I think you might stretching yourself a little thin and will regret it later.
5/26/2010 5:49:19 PM
while this is a big purchase, it isn't rushed. I've been looking at trucks for months now and this one fits the billbut you are right, and that's the reason for my hesitation
5/26/2010 5:57:17 PM

5/31/2010 8:33:46 PM
Damn. I love the running board look! As long as you avoid lowering it, dangle Jesus pieces from the mirror, and a mother Mary vinyl on the rear window and you should be okay...[Edited on May 31, 2010 at 10:29 PM. Reason : .]
