Anyone knows where would be a good place to order checks from? I tried to do it through my bank (BOA) and they're charging $25/check box. I don't know if that's normal rate or not.

You're getting screwed. Wachovia gives me free boxes of checks whenever I request them. Plus I get to pick my design.

Well yea. No one uses them a lot, but most people have to use them once in awhile.

Beside, if you reallllly need just one check for something, you can get a certified check from your bank. Otherwise, unless you have a crappy account, you should be able to at least get basic checks for free.

if your bank doesn't give them to you for free, then you need to find another bank or account type or something

Or ING checking, sometimes.

^I'm with SECU, and don't get free checks (that I know of). And it's kinda hard to beat SECU, locally.

idk what kind of account you have at BOA but ive never had to pay for checks, much less have a min amount in to qualify

you need to go raise some questions at your local branch....and not the one closest to a college campus

I still use a few checks a month. My cleaning lady doesn't exactly take a credit card, and I never carry cash. Also I sometimes approach the subs working on building new houses in my neighborhood to do side work for me and usually write 'em a check.

7 or 8 years ago I ordered some new checks (for free or at least really cheap from my bank). I wanted 4 books. Instead I ordered 4 boxes. Oops. I don't think I'll ever run out of these...

USAA does have an awesome checking account.

As for check writing, I still write them for my water bill because the ghetto county I live in charges a 2.8% fee for bank drafts and 6% for credit card payments. What a joke.

Also I write checks to small businesses like my termite company, pine straw guy, anyone I hire to help with landscaping, etc. Checks still have a purpose in this world.
