When you figure it out, let me know. One of our cats meows incessantly in the mornings. Always has.

my parent's old ass cat had been meowing nonstop for about the last seven years. it was sooooooooo freaking annoying they finally put it down. no joke. they called me one day and were like, Dan, we put lucy down today because she wouldnt shut the fuck up and was 18 years old. times up.
5/14/2010 12:36:12 AM

A spray bottle with water has worked for me in the past. Luckily, my current cat is not much of meower unless she's saying hello to me or it's feeding time.
5/14/2010 5:33:27 AM
My cat meows all the time but he's male and I knew he'd be more vocal so I was expecting it. He usually just wants attention, wants to be picked up and carried, or wants to be petted. I pretty much now know what he wants by the sound of the chirp he makes. Yes he has me trained. You can't stop a cat meowing, it's nothing like a dog barking, a cat meows when it's just talking. If it's past the kitten age then it will probably be like this for the rest of it's life. GTG, I just got meowed at to make a lapportunity asap.

My cat is vocal as shit but she sure as hell knows not to make noise when I'm in bed. That was indoctrinated into her when she was a wee kitty. If she started meowing, she got thrown out the bedroom and the door was shut in her face. Now she only meows if she gets shut out, otherwise she doesn't make a peep.
5/14/2010 8:33:37 AM
How old is your cat? If it is a kitten it's just gonna meow incessantly and there isn't much you can do. If it is 2+ yrs then it is just being a pain. I recommend ear plugs. My cat used to start meowing outside my bedroom door at around 3am and wouldn't shut up until I got up. This was especially a pain in the ass on weekends when I like to sleep in. So I just got a pair of ear plugs (They have a box of like 12 of them at Wal-Mart for something like $1.50) and anytime she started meowing while I was sleeping I just put the ear plugs in and went back to sleep. She continued to meow for months but it never bothered me again... now she's gotten older and usually stays quiet. I also just got a dog too... the cat doesn't like meowing cause it lets the dog know where she is.

i use force when im repremanding(sp) the fucker. He is almost 4 and knows when im angry its time to get in his house and shut up. but for about the last week its been all like well fuck you ill stop untill you are not paying attention anymore. then he goes right back to it. i squirt him, snap at him(he usually stops at that) and slap at him. I never scream cause that doesnt do shit
5/14/2010 11:05:49 AM
i thought using force or hitting cats doesnt teach them anything like it does dogs
5/14/2010 11:08:01 AM
Yeah, water or air duster to the face. I also find it useful to grab it by the neck, hold its gaze right your face, and hiss loudly with bared teeth while giving it a gentle shake. Scares the shit out of cats. Of course it only works if you do it instantly after the infraction, every single time without fail. And it has to genuinely terrify the cat and establish your dominance. Otherwise the cat is training you.
5/14/2010 11:11:54 AM
please please please don't hit your cat. please.
5/14/2010 11:17:40 AM
I think mine actually gets off on that shit.
5/14/2010 11:19:40 AM
i dont wail on him like he owes me money. most the time its i get his paws right after he claws the carpet.the rest of the time i forcefully push him away

my mom bought a pretty large cage like this one:http://www.amazon.com/Proselect-Foldable-Cage-35-5Lx24wx48-Black/dp/B000Y8YJPKshe puts their 13 year old cat in it at night upstairs away from their bedroom. the cat actually feels safer in my mom's opinion. they sleep better now.
5/14/2010 11:46:01 AM
Haha mine would never fall for that shit. As soon as it goes in cage, no matter how large, the howling starts. That's alright, I can move the cage outdoors. It'll howl for hours until it nods off, no joke.

Eh, they're pretty silent pets as long as they're fed and you let them run around. And for crying out loud it even shits where you tell it to. That's pretty impressive in my book. If you get a noisy lemon just put it down and get another one, it's not like we're running out of them.

my cats being loud aren't a problembut one of those fuckers will lick blinds, plastic bags, vinyl coverings, anything at all that results in the worst fucking possible noise i have ever heard in my lifethat shit will wake me up from a dead slumber at 4 in the morning. i'm surprised i haven't killed him yet.
5/15/2010 1:31:19 PM
our cat just turned 1 and she hardly ever meows. the only time she will meow is when she sees me getting her food or i start playing with one of her toys...and then it isn't even a "meow". she just "squeaks" a couple times. I don't think she even knows how to "meow" properly.

Some breeds are more needy than others. The american shorthair likes to hang around at a distance most of the time but won't go crazy if you're not around and it's free to roam.
