anyone else here into post-rock? it seems pretty hard finding people that like the music as well, most often I get complaints about a lack of lyrics. anyone planning on seeing mono in durham in june?

Post metal is better cuz they use orange ad30s instead of marshall jcm800sI'm astraladvent and I approved this message.

Never heard of Mono in durham or Mono (i'm assuming its just mono but some bands like to have those stupid names) but whenever i want new post rock i just go on What.cd and search mogwai or explosions in the sky and click on one of the million bands branching off.Same with last.fm if you're not into stealing music illegally with no regard for the lawI'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message/]

This thread is post-retarded.But, Mono rules. I may go to that show in June. Isn't it at a studio or something? How is that going to work?To the OP: If you're constantly talking to people who don't like instrumental music because of the "lack of lyrics," you're probably running with the wrong crowd. Not to say that everyone should like instrumental music, but if their sole reason for not liking it/not listening to it is "lack of lyrics"...yikes.[Edited on May 10, 2010 at 12:40 PM. Reason : .]

I always seem to get post-rock mixed up with prog-rock or post-hardcore.

5/10/2010 2:58:40 PM
Oh yeah I saw red sparrowes last month. Loved it. The new chick's band ain't bad either.I'm astraladvent and I approved this message.
5/10/2010 8:37:48 PM
what the hell is post-rock?I don't understand all of these goddamn subgenres, least of all the ones that are post-anything.
5/10/2010 8:45:41 PM
^
5/10/2010 9:01:45 PM
The new rosetta album is actually really good. Their stuff in the past was ok but didn't stand out from the legion of other post-rock and post-metal bands I have heard or seen. This one has some growing potential for sure. Its called "A Determinism of Morality"

No one likes Death Cab.
5/11/2010 8:31:44 PM
What the fuck is Post-rock? However, I do like Mono, Russian Circles, Rosetta, Godspeed, Pelican, Explosions in the Sky, ISIS, Neurosis etc...
5/11/2010 9:14:49 PM
Isis and Neurosis are post-metal but its basically the same thing just heavier.I'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.
5/11/2010 9:54:14 PM
Yeah I guess. Rosetta and Pelican are pretty fucking heavy too.
5/11/2010 10:39:47 PM
oh didn't see pelican, they're definitely Post Metal. Haven't really heard rosetta. Russian Circles is supposedly post metal, but they are fucking boring as fuck to me.When i think post rock i don't think it gets much heavier than Red Sparrowes or Mogwai or God is an Astronaut type stuff. I'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message./]
5/11/2010 11:13:32 PM
^ I can see that. Red Sparowes is actually a mix of members ISIS and Neurosis.
5/11/2010 11:16:14 PM
Only one guy from isis now, but thats not important. Post rock is basically a bunch of indie kids who want to be in a band thats even less popularI'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message./]

thanks synapse.I took a listen to those two youtube vids, and this is definitely not for me.

i can get into a good chunk of itbut after a while i realize that i could just sit by the fire and listen to my hard drive purr while leaving a faucet on ina distant bathroom and get the same psychological effectall the meanwhile, these actions get to count as a "performance piece" in my own home, thereby earning me personal kudos
5/12/2010 12:09:37 AM
post-rock isn't generally characterized by drones though
5/12/2010 9:33:59 AM
no no no... not the sound... just the feeling
5/12/2010 9:40:35 AM
there is an excellent post-rock band from raleigh called Goodbye, Titan http://www.myspace.com/goodbye.titan[Edited on May 12, 2010 at 12:39 PM. Reason : .]
5/12/2010 12:38:37 PM
I've recently been getting into this kind of music. My favorites are God is an Astronaut, Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, Mono and Collapse Under the Empire.
5/13/2010 9:53:09 AM
I think I am in the mood to just listen to Godspeed You! Black Emperor all day
5/13/2010 10:00:11 AM
I've been into Mogwai for a while. Also the term post-rock is possibly the stupidest fucking misnomer ever.
5/13/2010 10:49:21 AM
meh, the term has been around forever. As far as the age-old debate with genre classifying goes: I don't ever get into heated debates over which sub-genre a band belongs in, but I also think that sub-genres do help quickly classify bands on a high level and use them for such.
5/13/2010 10:57:08 AM
i also liked the fact that most post-rock musicians hate the term
5/13/2010 1:07:54 PM

5/13/2010 3:54:16 PM
Is this the same as Drone?

^ Who knows. But I do like me some Do Make Say Think.
5/13/2010 7:45:58 PM
all i know is i freaking love album leaf so if you guys wanna point me to similar bands then thank you
5/13/2010 7:56:44 PM
5/13/2010 8:10:28 PM
Mogwai's been around for what, 10 years now? I think this style of music is already waning. I was watching this moody documentary from like 2001 the other day with a post-rock soundtrack and kept thinking how dated it felt.
5/13/2010 8:26:26 PM
where does Mew fit in the post/prog spectrum? i suppose more towards prog rock since they include lyrics to many of their songs? i know they like to call themselves pretentious art-rock
5/14/2010 7:54:50 AM
Sunn O))) completely melted me the one time i saw them.
5/14/2010 9:01:44 AM
kudos to whoever just played this will destroy you on 88.1 just now
