Graduation announcements bother me because I think most people send them so they can get money. I've been in school forever and I'm excited to share the news I finally made it but I don't want that to be overshadowed by the thought of "Gah, now I have to send her something". Is it in poor form to say something on the announcement like please don't send me anything or am I over thinking this?

"In lieu of gifts please send cash donations to Mr. Joshua.FDT."

Sure, but then you wouldn't get any money.

i thought that was the point of graduation announcements. To receive graduation presents for your hard work.

I think if people want to send you something, they'll send something without an announcement coming from you. I think you might be over thinking it

FIRST WORLD PROBLEM ITT

My grad announcements came with a card on etiquette. It said you can add something that says you'd prefer not receive any gifts.

Oh, I've got something to give you, darling.

I didn't send out announcements for my grad school graduation because I didn't want anything, but then some family members were sad that they didn't know about it. I don't know how to solve your problem though. Maybe write a letter or send a "thinking of you" card instead of the standard announcement cards.

yea i dunno what the proper etiquette is. i just sent mine out and i don't want people to think i'm trying to get money either. they were to close friends and family that really helped me through this past year so i thought they'd be proud of my accomplishmentin a couple of them i stuck in an additional personal notecard that was like, i really don't want you to feel obligated to send anything i am sending this announcement to tell you that this accomplishment wouldn't have been possible w/o your love and support.or something. but i made it sound better than that.

I didn't really get shit for undergrad (only two other people in my extended family have a BS or BA) and expect even less for grad school. Don't worry about sending them out. I think the general thought is that now that you have the degree you will be able to make the big money and don't need their gifts, so you are just sending them out to share your excitement. Might just be because my family is white trash though. They get way more excited about the idiot cousins spawning, even though that takes no skill and they lately have just been popping out a bunch of illegitimate kids (the sort of thing that should be discouraged and not celebrated). If they ever send me birth announcements they will get a copy of Idiocracy as a present.

Just send it to your family that you see regularly or at least regularly talk too (if they live long distance). Then invite any friends casually without the card.

don't send anything, if you don't want anything.don't make a big deal out of it if you don't want them to.

Make sure you use at least 3 envelopes inside of envelopes. Bitches love envelopes.

i sent them to a lot of people but i genuinely think the people would want to know that i'm graduating since that was up in the air after last year. and i sent them to people that meant something to me and helped me through law school.i hope and THINK they know that i'm not sending them to get shit. they are mostly family members and close friends and close family friends (but my family is big so that is why the number was kinda high). i think i sent 21 announcements out.
