After making a new post give a 1-2 minute window where the poster can edit they own post w/out specifying a reason. 99% of my post edits are for typos that i catch right after posting and it would be nice if i didn't have to put crap into that reason box every time. A post preview option would be nice too.

i don't see the point in adding timing complexity to the edit reason thing though. edit reason is pretty standard thing on message boards, not sure why so many people think it's a big deal. personally, i kinda like it. there's an art to a good edit reason. it's like a subtitle for your post

^^the field might appear on most message boards but it also doesn't have to be used on most boards for one edit within a short time after the initial post.

i mean, at the very least being able to leave the edit reason blank and it just put that the post was edited at blah blah blah time would be nice. having to type in asfd or a space every time is just unnecessary

i've gotten so used to it that it's second nature. i never think twice about it.

plus the edit is always a nice place throw in a jab or two that someone might not immediately pick up on.

ex: On the something awful forums theres a 2 minute delay where edits dont show any evidence, but after that any edits to the message cause a little "user fucked around w/ this post at [timestamp]" message to appear.

most of the time my edit reasons are "a" or "." or something irrelevent. It doesn't really matter so much why I edited it (because i can put whatever reason), it just matters that i did edit it.

On such an active forum, I see no need for the 1-2 minute no-tag window. Having someone you're actively arguing with just editting their posts out entirely leaves you looking like an idiot. Especially when you reference their post with a simple "^", if anything at all.
