instead of punishing them, we should strive to understand their grievances and what motivated them to do these things... It's impossible to judge what they did as morally right or wrong without first drawing an equivalence between their actions and what was first perpetrated on them.

Wasn't some TWWer in India when all that stuff happened?

Solinari, I really dont think there is much we can do.I equate it to North Korea. I dont know how much you really know about that country, but lets put it this way... if we were to go to war with the government, despite the fact that the people are opressed and impovrished, they would all rise up to fight the U.S., even though we would be doing them good by removing that government from power. They have been brainwashed to think their leaders are gods, that they can do no wrong, and simply won't understand something like freedom.I think the terrorist we are dealing with are almost as brainwashed, and will be nearly impossible to 'change the heart and minds' of these individuals.

^Sounds like American citizens to me.
5/6/2010 12:54:10 PM
who says we should change their hearts and minds? It is us who need to change our approach to them. We are the ones whose hearts are violent. We are the ones who wish to steal their resources. They are defending themselves. How could we expect any less from them?

God, americans may be disillusioned, but we arent brainwashed. Plenty of people here differ wildly about their own view of American politics and our role in the world. And they are allowed to voice their concerns openly. You can't say that about a lot of other places in the world. Solinari: Like I stated, there is no approach that the U.S. is going to use to stop this, short of abandoning foreign policy. And I dont consider killing random civilians defending themselves. But thats just me. If they dropped a bomb off on your front porch, I'll let them know you said it was ok.[Edited on May 6, 2010 at 1:10 PM. Reason : .]

No point in arguing with you. if you're not even going to be close to correct in your statements, it kinda renders discussing anything with you as moot.

What can I tell ya, I reject your reality. I guess you'll be spending your entire life here being angry. Sucks to be you.[Edited on May 6, 2010 at 1:20 PM. Reason : .]

Your freedom is an illusion. As long as you drive your Ford, eat your McDonalds, and watch your Dancing with the Stars, you'll be happy.
5/6/2010 1:21:37 PM
Better than having a suck ass life like yours, I guess.

Don't feed the troll. God has been insufferable lately, even spilling his tripe over into sports talk. He's becoming as bad, if not worse, than salisburyboy. Unfortunately, it takes a 2/3 vote in Congress for anyone to get banned around here for obvious douchebaggery.

yeah, notice I wasnt really arguing the fine points.

Of course they don't hate us for our freedom. I mean, they're clearly killing and disfiguring Afghani schoolgirls because of their legitimate geopolitical grievances.
5/7/2010 9:57:38 AM
I guess that's the same reason we've killed a few hundred civilians as well, right?
5/7/2010 10:01:15 AM
Exactly. I mean, throwing acid in the faces of schoolgirls, decapitating Dutch filmmakers, hurling planeloads of people into skyscrapers, fighting to impose religious fascism on the entire globe - these are the exact moral equivalents of accidentally killing civilians while trying to put an end to the terrorists who commit such acts.
5/7/2010 10:12:44 AM
Way to group millions of people from Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Pakistan into one homogeneous group that you can direct your hate towards.
5/7/2010 10:21:28 AM
You're right. I was way off the mark when I grouped all of those Islamist terrorists into one big group, as if they had anything in common. Also, thank you for pointing our my anger management issue; clearly at least one of those groups of people are not deserving of my hatred.[Edited on May 7, 2010 at 10:42 AM. Reason : ]

I didn't even think India still had the death penalty. Well, good for them. Although I found this sentence pretty funny:
