JT3 is the most obvious cancer on this websiteThe fact that he remains at large speaks volumes about the lack of enforcement by the moderating task forceThen again, you could say the same thing about me

5/6/2010 9:34:36 AM
i've done this on ebay before, back in the dayi've also lied to CLers and said that someone else is interested in the item and that they can have it if they'll pay $x more...amazing how often that works
5/6/2010 9:36:10 AM
5/6/2010 9:36:41 AM
^^ Oh yeah. When those CL folks try to lowball you just tell them that you have like 5 or 6 other people who seem really interested in seeing it. That seems to validate in their mind that they are getting a really good deal and they better jump on it before someone else has the chance to. Works 90% of the time, all of the time.[Edited on May 6, 2010 at 9:38 AM. Reason : l]

Also, when you're selling something, you can put up some fake ads with higher prices...

i recently bought a laptop from some asian guy down in chapel hillhe said it was new in the box, still sealed, and he was only asking what he paid for it (which is retarded on craigslist...no one goes to CL to buy something for the same price they could if they bought it new directly from a store or company)...i asked him if i'd be able to open it up and see if it worked before buying it and he said sureso i get there, and he gives me a pair of scissors to break the seal...i take it out, hook it up make sure everything's good...and then i offer him $150 less than his asking pricedude throws a holy fit, says i'm dishonest for opening the box when i didn't intend to give him his asking price...he starts bitching about how now he can't return it for his full refund and i'm forcing him to sell it for lessi shrug, pull out the cash and tell him to take it or leave it, with the admonition that if you can get your full refund, you should, and not bother wasting peoples' time on craigslist...he says he won't take the money and that i should give him $50 and then leave, to make up for the fact that i opened the box...at this point i actually laugh and tell him to take it or leave it, but i'm going one way or anotherhe actually sells it to me for the $150 less, all the while telling me i'm a bad man, very dishonesti was greatly amused...also, i love my laptop
5/6/2010 11:16:41 AM
It was silly of him to ask retail price on craigslist. But it was also fucked up for you to reduce the value of his item and mislead him, regardless of whether he settled with you.
5/6/2010 11:18:28 AM
^^ sounds likeHELL OF A DEAL
5/6/2010 11:20:10 AM
^^^ goddamn, can you warn me if it's you on CL so I can be sure not to deal with you? That's some dishonest shit for a few extra bucks.
5/6/2010 11:22:52 AM
^^^ how did i mislead him? i never once said i wanted his item for his asking price (it had been posted for more than 3 weeks, so i assume no one else wanted it for retail, either) and i wouldn't buy anything, especially a laptop, without checking it out in person, firsti just assumed he hadn't sold it because people took one look at the posting and ignored it as being stupidthis is how CL business works, kids:1.) you never tell someone you're going to lowball them until you're standing there with the cash in your hand...the sight of money makes them desperate as often as not2.) you don't give them time to think it over because they might change their mind3.) be prepared to walk away...i can't tell you how many times i've actually walked away just to have them call me back and make the deal under my termsanyone who thinks these methods are underhanded is likely someone who hates themselves for giving in to them [Edited on May 6, 2010 at 11:26 AM. Reason : .]
5/6/2010 11:25:19 AM
yah that's pretty fucked upgranted the dude should have asked you if you were going to buy it for his asking price before letting you open it, but even if you made that agreement i'm sure you wouldn't have honored it anyway ]
5/6/2010 11:26:32 AM
*shrug*
5/6/2010 11:28:33 AM
The guy should have got the offer before he opened it I guess but that wouldn't have confirmed anythingdid he really expect to sell it to somebody without them seeing if it was legit?
5/6/2010 11:29:01 AM
You know, one day you're going to pull that stunt on the wrong guy
