^^^ they haven't hit Raleigh in years...but they usually do Winston-Salem or Charlotte and Greenville, SC. Wherever they are I will surely be there...with my desert buttons in the pocket

^according to the article they are getting together and arranging/writing about three times a week now. So if TOOL continues to go the route they have since Aenima, (a new album every 5 years) it will be about another year till we hear something. However long it takes is fine with me.....the never disappoint, and yes that includes 10,000 days

yeah, this is why i hope they come to raleigh. i've seen them in...i'm pretty sure it was greensboro, not w-s, a few years ago. and again in huntington, wv.

oh the first show i saw them at was walnut creek

^^ yeah it was G-boro a few years ago. And last summer it was Charlotte. The RBC would be a great place to seem them.

^ have you have listened to anything they have put out in the past 10 years? I would argue its so much more than just music that angst-filled high school kids listen to

^^ meh, Tool is another one of "those" bands I give a free pass to that unfortunately tends to get lumped into that category you are describing (others include deftones and NIN).

Yes, they unfortunately have that demographic that listens to them, but they are an immensely talented group of musicians that write very unique, musically intelligent, catchy albums.

^^ I could not have said that better myself. Because the same kids 10-12 years ago in high school who wore tool t shirts also wore Marilyn Manson tees. So everybody just thought they were a bunch of guys writing "angry" music and didnt really stop and listen. I can't see anybody who knows a thing about writing music or musical talent that could argue TOOL is not one of the best bands of the past 20 years

i saw em at what's now "disco rodeo" back in '96(?)

last time i drove by there it was to sneak out behind the costco... i stared at the building and couldn't believe that it had been over a decade since i'd stepped foot in that joint (to see... fugazi maybe?) and that i'd actually seen tool and foo fighters there back in the day

Agreed. I'd love to them live, but I would most certainly not be stoked about the other fans there. They really are an incredible band, even if a cross section of the fan base would generally indicate poor taste.

^ you would be surprised at how the crowds react during the shows. I would almost say its like a controlled "chaos". No real moshing or stupid behavior, people are way better at the shows than you would expect. My gf had always wanted to see them live but was afraid she would get crushed by people just being stupid. She has been to three shows now and we have never had a problem. Now of course I can only really speak on my experiences but every show i have been too, with the exception of the ozzfest show, the crowds have been great.

at the WV show a couple of years ago, the floor was open, no seating. i was worried i was gonna get squashed but it was fine. i got backed into buy the guy in front of me a couple of times and i had to shove him forward, but other than that, no problems. there was no moshing, fighting, etc. the big ass guards keep that on lock down.

at the greensboro show it was even calmer. everyone stayed in their assigned seat, several people bobbed/head banged/etc but no jumping on chairs or flailing about. i was in the 3rd row and the guards were strict there too.

i dont remember if walnut creek was rowdy. that was a lateralus tour concert (the other 2 were 10000 days). we were in the back section right before the grass iirc. there was no pushing and shoving where we were but i can't say for sure what went on up front.

the people seem to be good people for the most part. there are normal looking families with little kids who go. little 7 year old girls dressed in tool shirts and super excited. there are the creepy guys dressed in all black with trench coats. there were old people. there is a VERY wide range of folks who go to these shows.

^Was the "Greensboro" show just a few days before the Huntington show? If so, it was actually in Winston-Salem, because I was at both of those, too.

I went through the typical nu-metal phase as a late-'90s teenager; Tool and Deftones are the only two bands I still listen to today. I agree with CTA in that the label gets lazily slapped on the aforementioned two bands when they're by far the most interesting and original of the bunch. Hopefully this year will produce a new Deftones AND Tool record (got one so far).

Judge for yourself -- this was what they had at the two shows I attended from the 10,000 Days tour.

Just realized it only shows the lasers for about half the video haha, but I think it's a good show.

their laser + videos are really really awesome.

^^^ the laser show and videos during the entire concert are one of the best reasons to go. People can complain about spending $50+ on a ticket but TOOL actually gives you a total show as opposed to just playing songs

I dont think tool has played greensboro before. They played the LJVM in Winston Salem in 02 as well as 07. Then Charlotte last year.

even though i love tool, i gotta admit that i wasn't impressed with the shows they played in charlotte and raleigh following the release of Lateralus. first time i saw them was at lollapalooza back in the late-90s, and that performance was incredible.

^^ that's really funny considering a couple of years back Rolling Stone named that Lateralus tour as one of the best tours of all time.

i went to the raleigh show, and it was amazing. trapeze artists in the background ftw.

rolling stone is terrible butttt I too thought their Lateralus show was really solid. Definitely not a top 5 show for me or anything but I still really enjoyed it.

agreed on the RS being terrible, but yeah, i was just stating it to show that the tour was noticed and had some relevance etc.

tool played a festival i went to last year

they played directly after my bloody valentine on the main stage

i thoroughly enjoyed watching the tool quintessential meathead fans being horribly uncomfortable and confused during mbv

then i left to watch ting tings instead of tool

although the gf was all about seeing tool

god damn it doesn't matter. that area of the state is all the same to me anyway. why are yall so eat up over which city it was? they didn't play ws and huntington back to back either.

the trapeze artists are hard to beat, but the lasers are still a very awesome show. it's not bad by any stretch of the imagination.

When they played in Charlotte last year for the 10k days tour, some asshole shined his laser pointer right at Maynard's face during the first song. And that was the last we saw of his face for the rest of the show... Dude also got yanked out of the crowd pretty hard.

i think it was partly the set that they played, partly that the only visuals i remember were those performers doing their walking around on hands and feet thing...plus do i remember some sort of shit going on where they were on ropes? i wasn't as into lateralus when it first came out, but the lollapalooza show was not too long after aenima which has been my favorite album for a long damn time.

i musta been high.
