Since there are a lot of Chargers fans on here because of Rivers, I figured this could use its own thread (didn't see a mention of him in the Chargers official thread). The official trade last night was: the 28th pick, a 2010 2nd round pick, a 2010 4th round pick, and Tim Dobbins to the Phins, the 12th pick (Mathews), a 2010 4th rounder, and a 2010 6th rounder to the Chargers. As a Chargers fan, I'm really excited about Mathews and think he'll be fantastic right away next year. However, they might've been able to get him still at 28, or if not, they probably didn't need to trade all the way up to 12, they probably could've settled for, say, the 20th pick. And in trading away their 2nd round pick, they're giving up an opportunity to draft a quality DT, which they are in desperate need of since Jamal Williams. They also have issues at CB that are yet to be addressed. What do you guys think of this trade and of Mathews?

I have no idea what you are talking about. You seem to not know how to coherently get your point across. Maybe if you put your post in a better format i would read it. Lets make a thread for a running back on a team 3000 miles away that people here only follow because we have an unhealthy emotional and psychological attachment to the starting quarterback and we root for him through thick and thin even though anyone but a blatant homer could plainly see that he is one of the biggest pricks in the league and almost universally disdained by everyone not from or currently living in San Diego, Raleigh or Decatur. Lets make a thread not for him, but for his teammate, a running back who played his college ball in California that ninety five percent of TWW hadn’t heard of before last night, just because he will be taking handoffs from the aforementioned prick. Great Idea.

the only reason Broncos fans and NCSU haters think Rivers is a dick is because he owned the Broncos and Jay Cutler got butt hurtall 3 of my posts in this thread are 100% fucking spot on and you cant handle itsometimes I'll be like "I won't draft Joe Mauer in my fantasy draft" because I'm afraid of being labelled a homer...but its also dumb to act like he's not a good playerso basically you're so afraid of being called out by Jaybee for not being objective, that you create some imaginary national opinion of Rivers, which in reality, is only shared by UNC fans and people who are fans of the Broncos (and probably Chiefs and Raiders)[Edited on April 23, 2010 at 3:01 PM. Rarely, if ever, would I ever call one of your posts spot on. You speak too often in absolutes to be take seriously anymore. A few years ago, you were fine, but then you began a downward spiral. Its like you saw Skip Bayless on Around the Horn one day and decided to mirror your whole Sports Talk persona on him.

^^^no, thats actually his opinion...he thinks the national consensus of Rivers is that before anything else, people perceive him as a dickHe's not trolling
4/23/2010 3:24:27 PM
His skill as a player and his image are mutually exclusive. Ben Roethlisberger is a great quarterback...and a rapist. Dree Brees is a great quarterback...and by all acounts, a really nice guy. Tom Brady is a great quarterback...and smug asshole who no one really likes but is jealous of for his off field exploits. Philip Rivers is a great quarterback...and a punk bitch who no one really likes.Skill and Persona. Separate entities.

According to you, State fans and Chargers fans are pretty much the only people who don't hate RiversAccording to me, Broncos fans and State haters are pretty much the only people who do hate Rivers95% of football fans know him as a good QB, periodYou take one instance of him jawing with Denver fans, and somehow transform it into his entire national perception by NFL fans around the entire country for some reasonI would guess the reason is to not be perceived as a State homer on TWW, congrats, you've succeeded]

^^Make that jawing with Jay Cutler, who most Denver fans hate now. Denver fans hate that he has kicked their team around on the regular. It was Indy fans he talked back to (said "I'll be back") when they were taunting him after his ACL was torn.[Edited on April 23, 2010 at 3:37 PM. Reason : .]

I feel like ESPN tries to portray him as a punk, based on a few seperate instances. Maybe those just stick out because I pay attention when they talk about him, and it slides off most people. I like Rivers, but it wouldn't surprise me if most of the country didn't like him, or didn't know enough to care either way.
4/23/2010 3:36:35 PM
when keeping it real being too objective goes wrong

ESPN has never skewed the perception of the country. 95% of fans don't remember what ESPN told them to think a year ago, only what ESPN tells them to think today.
