I went to an urgent care Dr. on Sunday night, I hardly ever go to the Dr., but I knew there was something clearly wrong with me more than just the cold or flu. I had been running a temp for two days and couldn't keep anything down. He tells me pretty much to drink lots of fluid, because it's prob a GI bug and it should be over soon. I went to my regular Dr. today he actually runs some test, and I have pneumonia. Is there any way to get my co-pay back from the original Dr. just because he was shitty? I could really care less about BlueCross getting their couple hundred bucks back, but it might be worth it out of pure spite.

Short of a mal practice suit (or threatening one), you're SOL.

It's not worth doing it just out of spite.Diagnostic medicine is an imperfect art based on conditional likelihoods; you should not ever expect doctors to be right every time, so you should not be super pissed when a doctor gets something wrong. That doesn't mean that the doctor you saw is shitty; it might mean that based on the timeframe you had been having issues and the way you described it, a GI bug was the most likely cause on Sunday. The fact that it lasted two more days and that you might have described your symptoms differently (or differences in doctor-insurer relationship, insurance status, etc) might be what made your regular doctor decide to order the test today.

Have you gone back and told the first doctor(or his staff at least) that they misdiagnosed you? Doctors make a shitload of money, he might refund you with an apology.Otherwise, POST HIS NAME AND SEND HIM A LINK TO THIS THREAD.[Edited on April 14, 2010 at 12:11 PM. Reason : TWW threads show up on Google the same day usually, he doesn't want that.]

I have gotten my copay back before, but only because the asswipe answering the phone told me the doc treated a disease, and when I got there he claims that same disease DID NOT EXIST! The assholes never refunded my travel expenses to Chicago though. Doctors are the biggest scam ever. They can completely misrepresent themselves, provide you with no help at all, and still demand your money. I thoroughly research any doc I go to, and only go to them after I have figured out what the problem is at this point. I only go to an urgent care/ER type place if I am afraid I will die or sustain massive permanent damage before my regular doctor's office opens.
