A new season, time for a new thread!I like the way the team's looking thus far. Granderson and Johnson seem to be fitting right in too.Go Yankees, time to repeat in 2010!

I couldn't tell you Ernie Banks' number off-hand but I've cheered for that piece of shit team forever.
4/13/2010 3:12:43 PM
Can you explain why Ron Santos' gimp ass keeps his job as color guy? He is awful.
4/13/2010 3:14:45 PM
3 - FAG5 - DIP SHIT7- DOUCHE BAG
4/13/2010 3:15:23 PM
Well 7's obviously Mickey Mantle. While I don't dwell on the past 5 is Dimaggio. And finally 3, The Babe.Bobby Murcer...eh he was an announcer for the Yanks for a bit, and had played for them. But I'm not aware of any rule that says you have to memorize baseball facts to be a fan.Though it troubles me that you're in love with Shane Victorino.

^^ fair enough. Though you should know a little bit about your team's past... especially one so rich as the Yankees.^ lol... anytime I hear him call a game all I hear are a varying assortment of "YES" and "NO" coupled with vague, random dialogue.V He also took the under on him staying healthy through May.[Edited on April 13, 2010 at 3:19 PM. Do you think Nick Johnson has a bet to see just how little he can swing his bat this season?

I want to say that if you can't name all the retired Yankees and their numbers, you aren't just a shitty Yankees fan, you're a shitty baseball fanAnd probably a shitty American and just a shitty person is general

Funny you should say that because I have a Microsoft pennant RIGHT next to my Yankees pennant on my wall.

4/13/2010 4:27:59 PM
Not a bad first outing by Hughes. Got a little off track there in the fifth with back-to-back full counts before getting a line out.Check that, he came back out for the sixth. Walked first two batters and now he's done. 5 IP, 2 hits, 1 HR, 1 ER, 6 BB, 6 Ks[Edited on April 15, 2010 at 9:17 PM. Reason : ]

I hate the Yankees with a passion, but this team they have assembled this year looks damn impressive. Outside of the outfield and maybe the middle relievers, there is no weakness. And I'm sure they'll manage to trade for some huge name OF in July to replace Swisher or Gardner in the lineup.
4/16/2010 8:14:54 AM
Swisher is fine. Gardner is the only real weakness in the line-up. Swisher hit .250 with 29 HRs and 82 RBIs last year.My main concern so far (albeit through two games) is whether or not Javy Vasquez is just a head case when it comes to playing in NY. He's just been terrible in his two starts. But like I said, it's still so early. Hopefully he'll come around.
4/16/2010 10:41:17 AM
^ Swisher is a very good bat in almost every lineup especially because he is such as patient hitter and all, but given the way the Yankees always want more, I would not be surprised to see them replace him or Gardner in the lineup with someone better that might be on the trading block later this year. Or move Swisher to DH and sit Johnson. Either way there is no excuse for this team to not win 100 games (even in the tough AL East). The Yankees can have Melky back and the Braves will take Javy back with cash to pay his salary - thanks.[Edited on April 16, 2010 at 11:05 AM. Swisher is part of the reason the Yanks are leading the Beane Count thus far.... (correlates strongly to long term W/L). He was, indeed, raised with a different hitting philosophy than most.http://espn.go.com/mlb/beanecount
4/16/2010 1:16:15 PM
Solid start to the season Yanks!
4/19/2010 11:28:32 AM
In my quest for coverage about the Yankees, I've taken to following Joel Sherman (of the NY Post) on Twitter.I gotta say, his penchant for referring to Jeter, Rivera, Pettitte and Posad as The Core Four is really grating on my nerves. It just irritates me every time I see it. I hate that nickname for those guys.C'mon!
4/19/2010 11:42:17 AM
I like reading his columns, but I'm not on twitter nor do I plan on doing so.
4/19/2010 1:38:35 PM
He just posts links to his columns and stuff. Twitter has served as an excellent reminder for me to go read things elsewhere. I follow Deadspin, Bill Simmons, Jon Heyman, Buster Olney, Jayson Stark, Jerry Crasnick, Peter Gammons, Sherman, etc. They post links to stories I would otherwise forget to look for and read. But yeah, I like reading his stuff aside from the Core Four nonsense.

Javi looked better last night. Got the win, but still sort of labored through 5.1 innings. Mark Feinsand of the Daily News was much more optimistic about the start, while Joel Sherman of the Post was kind of a downer about it. Win's a win. And he desperately needed to get a win under his belt before returning to NY.

Best record in baseball
4/21/2010 1:05:44 PM
^ most expensive payroll in baseball Seriously this is a scary good team the Yankees have assembled. If a SP can shut them out or even throw a complete game this season, I will be surprised. The hitters in that lineup are so patient and work pitchers to death. There are hardly any wasted ABs. Plus now that the rotation has depth, it is that much harder for teams to even win if they do hold the Yankees lineup in check

HUGHES.No-hitter into the 8th. Broken up with a line drive off his arm/chest.
4/22/2010 1:12:26 AM
Yanks just turned a triple play! Bottom of the sixth, men on first and second. Kurt Suzuki hit a hard grounder to A-Rod who stepped on third, threw to Cano, who threw to Nick Johnson. Very nice.Wow, first triple play since 1968.[Edited on April 22, 2010 at 5:12 PM. Reason : ]

Can someone explain to me WHY Hughes was taken out of the game after 5 innings?!?! 2 hits, 1 run and you take him out?! I couldn't watch the game (just followed it online), so I'm unaware of his pitch count. But sweet Jesus the following bullpen pitchers did a great job shitting the bed and handing the win to the O's
4/28/2010 1:33:46 PM
John Sterling was saying he was well over 100 pitches. He had a rough second inning (like close to 50 pitches through two innings). I couldn't be home last night, so I missed it and could only spot follow on the radio. But I did catch him saying he threw a lot of pitches.Box score says he threw 109 (68 for strikes) with four walks. Not the smoothest outing, but I still like what I've seen/heard from him.
4/28/2010 1:57:47 PM
^ correct. his pitch count reached 100 during the 5th inning and some of his pitches were starting to look a lil sloppy by then.
4/28/2010 2:00:12 PM
Well that's somewhat reassuring to hear. Though something tells me he wouldn't walk a batter and then hit a batter, both with 2 outs

down 6-0 to Detroit in the 7th...can't say I'm excited to drop 3/4 games to the Tigers

so how many games can we predict Mariano will blow this year? so far his count is 1. i'm thinking 3-4 games total for the season.

That was fucking disappointingYeah perhaps.
