Hey guys,I will be going out later tonight to purchase a suit for the first time in years -- does anyone know of any good (preferably local) places I could go to pick up a suit for under $400?Also, if you happen to know of any sales/deals going on right now, it would be appreciated. Thanks

serious question here....are you looking for a pimp suit?

I have had good luck with Belks/Macys. You usually can find a nice brand of suit for a reasonable price.[Edited on April 13, 2010 at 9:37 AM. Reason : ]

I don't know if it is a local sale or not but I was at Joseph A Bank this past weekend and they had an excellent deal where you could buy one suit and get two free. If you choose not to get the two extra for free, they will divide the price of the one suit by three. They also have buy one get one free dress shirts and ties. I got a suit, two dress shirts, and two ties for about $270. Damn good deal.

^yeah JoSaBank is having a great sale right now. Also, I believe Men's Wearhouse is still running the promotion "buy any suit, get the 2nd for $100".

if you don't buy a josabank suit on sale, you suck at life--they are always running some sort of sale. They fucking bombard my inbox with their spam. I'd mark it spam, but they are good for easy reference, and so I don't miss and especially good sale.

^^ Jos A Banks is always doing sales like thati just got 2 suits about 3 weeks ago for 400 dollars[Edited on April 13, 2010 at 10:12 AM. Reason : ]

I just called Jos A Banks and asked about the buy 1 get 2 free since its not on their website any longer -- they said the sale technically has ended but they would still honor it since I mentioned it to them. They are also doing the $299 for any signature suit right now. Thanks for the informationOh yeah -- not looking for a pimp suit -- the name seemed like a good idea coming into state as a freshmen almost a decade ago. Live and learn eh?

Jos A B(bullshit) suits are made of crap. Go somewhere else. I would rather go to S&K / Mens Wharehouse.
4/13/2010 10:45:54 AM
Jos a Bank, while mediocre, is still superior to Mens Wharehouse in every way

Just to add some detail -- this is a suit that I will be wearing for a dinner event with work -- I will likely only wear this suit a few times a year, if even that.

Buy one suit, get TWELVE FREE!Only at JOESPH A BANKS

Check out good-will, I got an Italian suit for $12, looked up the brand when I got home and it sells for over $800.

just never buy anything retail from s&k, mw or jab

haha jos a bank suits are garbageenjoy enormous shoulder pads and pleated pants...unless you're fat and sloppy (some of you are), you should not be shopping there.[Edited on April 13, 2010 at 1:06 PM. Reason : .]

^Suggestions for alternatives for under $400? Or was that an poor attempt at trolling? Good-will is hit or miss. I've found several $50-$1000 suits in my size for $10 there with some patience and time. However, the "miss" part happens frequently ... about 90% of the time. AND, you need to be located next to a GoodWill near a neighborhood that would be likely to donate decent suits.Go for the buy 1 get 2 free for now. Get a summer suit for work, a winter suit for work, and then something you would like to wear out for yourself.[Edited on April 13, 2010 at 9:25 PM. Reason : .]

i'm very glad i don't wear suits often enough to give a rat's ass where it came from

I've got a rock and republic suit in a regular fit/regular wash in a size 31. If you are anywhere between a 29-31 waist, this suit will work. I'm asking $120. They are unaltered, unwashed, and have only been worn twice. I simply don't want them and I've got a few designer suits. I purchased them from a jos a bank for $286 (on sale). I will send pics if you are interested.

whats the most expensive retail suit brand?

Thanks for the info everyone -- and I appreciate the offer JCS but I think those would be a bit small on me.I picked up 2x suits last night and was able to get them next day tailored through Lee's Tailors.

You should check out Saks Off 5th and Sake Fifth Avenue.Saks Fifth Ave has a few sales throughout the year where they have suits more than 50% off rack prices. I got my last $1000 Hugo Boss suit from them for about $400.Saks off Fifth is the outlet store in Morrisville, and they also have a lot of nice suits around that range.

Last suit i got was from Brooks brothers i got like 50% off.http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=574&Product_Id=830364&Parent_Id=418 (I think thats the one)Some of the top of the line JOS stuff is good, but they don't fit me right,That suit fit me best for my build. That being said, if i bought an inappropriate suit, or one that didn't fit right, it wouldn't matter if the msrp was $8000.What are you buying the suit for? Interviews? How often are you going to wear it, nicer suits will be better made, however, if your only going to wear it once or twice a year at non critical things there isn't a great reason to spend alot of money, especially if you frequently change weight or size.Consider the type of business you do, if your going to be working at a bank, or in a courtroom you would want a different type of suit.
