Car-wise, rule-wise ect.I am operating under the assumption that F-1 is superior, but i cannot ever find a race being broadcast or even re-broadcast. I can occasionally run into an indycar race and I want to know what I'm missing.thx

so far this year the F1 races have been in the early morning hours. They are all on Speed except a couple in the summer which will be on Fox time delay.Indycar has ~650hp spec locked down engine from Honda, 10,300 rpm limit, and a common 6 speed transaxle.F1 has multiple manufacturers, all 2.4l v8 rev limited to 18k, could be in the high 700hp range depending on who you believe. Common ECU used by all teams but each team programs their own code in it. Each team usually makes their own transaxles, all 7 speed units.Indycar has refueling whenever the team wants. F1 has no refueling at all this year.F1 is 250-300lbs lighter as a minimum weight.I believe Indycar used to use carbon brake rotors for some types of tracks and regular iron rotors for other, but they have gone to carbon brakes for all races. F1 has used carbon brakes for a long time. F1 has 13" rim diameter, Indycar is 15".F1 teams make a new chassis design every year (and sometimes do significant mid-season improvements leading to a new chassis designation), Indycar teams use the same chassis for a long time because there isn't much of a need to get a new spec chassis unless they damage it too much in a wreck.F1 has far superior handling and braking capabilities, but the added aero drag from the shape of the body and wings means it has a lower top speed.F1 also has rules regarding engine and transmission reliability (8 engines must last the whole season, use in any order you want, trans need to last 4 races).

F1 is superior.

well, bigger picture, Indy cars run both road courses and circle tracks, whereas F1 runs strictly road/street courses.

isn't there a major difference in the rear-end? like indy runs spools and F1 runs some sort of LSD? i can't remember and maybe i'm thinking of something else.
4/10/2010 12:21:55 AM
thanks!i just cant get into nascar how about the class of drivers? are indycar drivers regularly competitive in f-1?
4/10/2010 12:24:18 AM
indy-everyone complainsf1- most wins in a season wins championship
4/10/2010 12:30:40 AM
sweeeeeeeeet
4/10/2010 12:35:18 AM
4/10/2010 12:39:20 AM
why cant you get into nascar. is it because indy shares some of the same tracks as nascar and there is less passing and shorter racing and less cars as well.
nascars dont sound like africanized chainsaws
4/10/2010 12:53:44 AM
lol don't indy cars have a pretty locked down aero package too? honestly F1 used to be so far superior to indy its not even funny but with indy cars making more power and f1 making less.... they're getting close in "on paper statistics". but when it comes down to it the aerodynamics on the f1 cars are leaps and bounds ahead of an indy car while maintaining a similar over-all shape.nascar is fun for the first time since they banned big blocks this year... but still not as cool as f1 cause they rarely turn right in nascar.

The F1 season is looking to be very interesting this year. Lots of passing thus far and some parity among teams. If you want to watch just google search the schedule for this year. I don't watch any races live, rather I DVR them and watch later. It's not super to hard to avoid learning the race winner prematurely, given the lack of US media coverage.

i went an entire week without knowing who won the IndyCar race from ST Pete before watching it on youtube as an avid fan of both, I can tell you that F1 races can get boring, but qualifying is awesome. But the same 4 drivers always win.IndyCar races not so much, and the mix of ovals and road and street courses is what makes it interesting. BUT the same 6 drivers always win. Nascar has a bigger change of drivers that win, but they have too many races and the races are too long. F1 teams spend so much $$ on tenths of a secondIndyCar needs the turbo 4cyl that they are proposing to come a reality

i am still not convinced yet. i watched every practice, qual, and race so I think the dry races from day1 to day3 need to be convincing........however watching the Barber IRL race yesterday I was thinking if they had the same rules, IndyCar would be MORE predictable with no refueling. F1 is LESS predictable thus far without refueling.Of course Vettel should have won all 3 races if not for mechanical issues
4/12/2010 6:08:29 AM
^Agree with that statement. Vettel's the guy to beat, though I have to think that if Hamilton and finally grab a front row starting position that he'll run away with it. He's been very strong thus far as well.

i cant remember nascar having a bigger block than like a 357 or some shit like that
4/12/2010 3:12:44 PM
It's been decades since nascar cup cars have had larger than a 358ci engine. ~1970 if I remember right.

lol i mean.... this year nascar is the most fun since they limited the motor size in 1971 from 429ci to 358ci.i mean bumping is allowed restricter plates are opening up...rubbing is allowed... woohaa!! but still they only turn left
