I think Chris Paul is a bigger draw nowadays than Duncan, but they're both huge.Plus Wake has a pretty campus, a surprisingly passionate fanbase (at least in bball) and offers a really great student-to-teacher ratio. Believe it or not, a lot of recruits say that's a big deal to them.If I'm Ron Wellman, I'm calling Brad Stevens pronto
4/7/2010 4:27:25 PM
^^^^, ^^, ^ I still say it's a push. Their name recognition isn't that much better than ours. When you factor in size of the fanbase along with facilities, resources, and history, I don't think it's any better of a gig; however, I'll bet money that the media doesn't constantly bring up how Wake fired a coach who took them to the 2nd round after only 3 years (1 round short of where Herb was able to take us in 10) in the way that they bring up how we "fired" Herb.[Edited on April 7, 2010 at 4:27 PM. Bout time, he sucked. As for which is better, I doubt Wake can pay like State can.[Edited on April 7, 2010 at 4:29 PM. Reason : ]

^ Do you really think fans of the NBA give a rat's ass about where someone went to school?...I mean how many people do you see being like "Oh yeah, Marquette is my team" just because Dwayne Wade went there. Duncan is too old to be a factor because you really have to be an ACC fan to remember where he went to school. Howard is meh. You could maybe make a case for Chris Paul, but he didn't REALLY blow up until he got to the league.I'm talking about name recognition of the school and it's brand. I don't go to airports in Chicago and see people decked out in Wake Forest Gear. I can't say the same about Carolina, Duke, etc.I think you're just pissed because I said something that wasn't flattering to Herb.

State and Wake are on the same plane as far as name recognitionIn college basketball, there's UNC, Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, UCLA and then everyone elseAnyone repping Wolfpack or Deacon gear outside of NC is probably an alum or kin to an alum of that school

all i'm saying is that coaches sell their best players to the recruits. WF coach can say "how would you like to see your name in the rafters alongside Tim Duncan, Chris Paul and Josh Howard"Sid gets to say "hey, have you ever heard of David Thompson, Tommy Burleson or Dereck Whittenburg?"that's all.
4/7/2010 5:02:44 PM
Carmello Anthony is like a god of college basketball and syracuse didn't have a single top 100 recruit this year AFAIK.
4/7/2010 5:03:27 PM
lol @melo being a basketball god
4/7/2010 5:05:07 PM
4/7/2010 5:07:18 PM
i would wholeheartedly agree that, in the eyes of a 16 year old blue-chip recruit, Melo is a college basketball godhe lived their dream. go to school for one year, win a title, leave college, fuck bitches, get grafted top-5, make millions and zillions of dollars, get shoe deal(s), fuck hot bitches, get tons of MVP votes

Wake Forest: the shitty movie that was never even nominated for an Oscar, but did have Paul Walker star in it!Hey guys, come play for me at Memphis! Memphis not only has no titles, but it has no history! Derick Rose will never sign there!]
4/7/2010 5:19:27 PM
Whatever Lowe says, it seems to be working. Now if he could only coach them once they got here.
4/7/2010 5:19:59 PM
Hey have you heard of Tim Duncan? Chris Paul? Well you can't play with them, they're gone, and the guy who recruited one of them is dead, but I mean hey, come to Wake Forest!
4/7/2010 5:20:48 PM
At least Memphis had Penny Hardaway Kids know Penny HardawayWe have a bunch of Eurotrash
4/7/2010 5:21:35 PM
welcome to winston-salem... famous for our cigarette companies! we have a few buildings and a mall! f all of our students went to a game, it would fill half our arena!
4/7/2010 5:22:29 PM
Kids don't know Penny Hardaway, they don't even know Shaq used to play for the Magic. How are you going to make the age/relevance argument, and then bring up Anfernee fucking Hardaway.Hey guys, come on down to West by god Virginia! Jerry fucking West used to play here! Your grandfather has heard of him!]
4/7/2010 5:23:09 PM
Hot chicks are only 30 min west down I-40 from State's campus. They would have to drive a lot further from Winston Salem.
4/7/2010 5:24:26 PM
Regardless of PennyMemphis had CalHe delivered Camby and Dejuan Wagner before Rose got thereIts all about the coach...no kid gives a fuck about Raleigh or Winston
4/7/2010 5:27:04 PM
16 year olds only care about money and fame.if I were a coach, going head-to-head with Sid for a recruit, I'd pull this line to the recruit:If you come to Wake Forest, I can guarantee you a great chance at making the NBA and making the kind of money Chris Paul and Tim Duncan make. Did you know that Tim makes $22.2 million per year and Chris makes $13.5 million per year? You know how much Sid's guys get once they're in the NBA? JJ Hickson makes $1.5 million and Josh Powell makes $0.96 million. Now that you know these figures, what more do I need to do to get you to give me a verbal?"[Edited on April 7, 2010 at 5:29 PM. 4/7/2010 5:27:49 PM
But State has David Thompson! He was the MVP of the 1976 ABA All Star game! Don't you want to follow in his footsteps?
4/7/2010 5:30:04 PM
Which proves its not all about the age of relevant alumni, although I'm sure a few high school kids have seen Lebron throw an alleyoop to Hickson, or seen Powell get a rebound...say what you want about our players in the NBA...they're at least on teams that people like to watchBut if you think Wake has more appeal than State, you're crazyWake advantages:- More recognizable recent alums, like Duncan and Paul- ....State advantages:- 1 of 14 schools in history with multiple national titles- A coach who has NBA connections- A coach who literally knows what it takes to win a national title, at least in some context (as a player)- Better facilities- Bigger basketball budgetetcOH I FORGOT TO MENTIONWAKE DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A FUCKING HEAD COACH]
4/7/2010 5:30:24 PM
if you come to state, i can guarantee you will get to travel the world after you leave here...maybe have a segment on sports radio when you leave
4/7/2010 5:30:32 PM

4/7/2010 5:31:55 PM
Hey you ever heard the NBA on NBC theme song? Come to State!^you're really playing yourself if you don't think any athlete has a lot of respect for a coach who has literally been through the same things that they have as a college athleteThats like saying NFL players dont give a shit that Jerry Richardson played in the league, and they have just as much respect for some oil tycoon who happens to buy a team]

By your logic ncstatetke, State football should be raking in star defensive-lineman recruits. I mean, who doesn't want to be the next Mario Williams, and in so doing, play for NC State?...
