Any suggestions for a decent SUV tire that will last and isn't too noisy? Not looking in the michelin/goodyear price range, but not necessarily the cheapest tire. I've been checking Tirerack for reviews. Also, what is the best approach to getting the tires? What is a good place to get them installed and for an alignment to go along with it?

Thanks for the advice folks!

I was going to suggest michelin for longest lasting without being noisy..

yokohama geolander and dunlop both have a suv tire that looks similar but i haven't used either.

I just put some Kumho Solus KR21's on my Jeep Cherokee (it's a 99.99% highway-driven vehicle) last week and they've done well on the trip out to Portsmouth, VA and back. They were cheap and grip the road really well. Discount tire also says they have an 85,000 mile warranty (I don't expect them to last that long). They're incredibly quiet on the road and the reviews I've read say they handle well in snowy and rainy conditions. They are just about the cheapest tires I saw at discount tire, but so far I'm enjoying them much more than the Dunlop A/T Radials that I had (which were all-seasons).

I got them installed for $335 or so, and if I get the treadlife I want (at least 50k miles) I'm not going to bitch about it. My dunlops only lasted about 38,000 miles before needing replacement and they cost more, sucked ass in the rain, and weren't as quiet on the road as these Kumhos (however they were better than the Toyos I had before).

^ mindstorm, I'm guessing you got them installed at Discount Tire? That seems like a really good deal, what size tire is that for?

I can't find the solus in 265/65 R17. I only see the Road Venture APT KL51, which I have read is a really good tire for the money as well. Anyone have any experience with the APTs or any idea about the solus sizes?

I have Michelin LTX A/T and love them. They last forever.

I've heard that Duty Tire on Atlantic is really good as far as service. I'm not sure how their prices are.

Yeah, I thought it was an excellent deal. The per tire price was cheaper than tirerack.com. My Cherokee runs P225/75R15 tires.

The tires are for an 07 4runner. Looking for a strictly on-road/highway tire.

I put some General Grabber HTS ties on my QX4 over a year ago. They have been great tires and I will probably purchase again. They are very quiet, wear well and do great in snow and mud. I had them on when I went to Snowshoe this past winter and drove in the mountains with over 14" of snow on the road with no problem. I also had them on went I went 4-wheeling through lots of deep mud and puddles. Never got stuck. They ride well of the highway too. with a 1-10 rating i'd put them at an 8.

The dunlops that I have on the 4runner now are weather cracking along the tread. Called dunlop and they are willing to have Just Tires take a look at them for a possible pro-rated discount towards new tires. We'll see where it goes.

So apparently tires on my S-10 pickup dryrotted, looking for a new set. Need some quiet, nice riding, all-season tires (highway only - its 2wd). Size is 235-55R16. I was recommended Falken ZIEX 502 for $105/wheel installed. I was also looking at 512, yay/nay? its a 4 cyl so its unlikely to be losing tranction from all that powR, but it is a pickup truck so it oversteers quite easy in shitty weather.
Any other suggestions?

those are both passenger car tires, but I guess they'd work fine.

God point, I do haul stuff in it at highay speeds pretty reguraly so I guess I better check the load rating.
However, I do not seem to have very many options for this tire size. What's out there that's truck-secific taht will fit?
