Am I looking at a water moccasin or some harmless variety of water snake.
3/25/2010 3:52:12 PM

3/25/2010 3:52:56 PM

3/25/2010 3:52:59 PM
3/25/2010 3:53:36 PM
3/25/2010 3:54:05 PM
all snakes can swim...just cause it's in the water doesn't mean it's a poisonous snake.
3/25/2010 3:54:33 PM
yea it looks to be a water snake. if you really want to check, catch it and look at its eyes
3/25/2010 3:59:09 PM
head didn't look like a water moccasin in shape but didn't get a look at the eyes and it looks young so I wasn't sure about the coloring.
3/25/2010 4:01:22 PM
poisonous venomous snakes have vertical pupils. non-venomous snakes have round ones. i think this rule applies to all snakes. ymmv
3/25/2010 4:01:47 PM
this is a juvenile cottonmouth
3/25/2010 4:03:23 PM
i would open a dialogue about genus with said serpent
3/25/2010 4:04:30 PM
Definitely not a Water Moccasin. Some sort of water snake.
3/25/2010 4:08:44 PM
3/25/2010 4:26:01 PM
^When they're cottonmouths, yes.
3/25/2010 4:52:48 PM
THEY'RE DECIMATING THE GRUBWORM POPULATION

Northern Watersnake Cottonmouths generally are incapable of submerging their body. Also if you are in the raleigh area: THEY ARE NOT FOUND HERE DUMBFUCKS! They are only found on the easternmost edge of wake co. Don't even give me the my grandpappy found one in Raleigh because your grandpappy is a dumbfuck who probably fucked your sister and that is how you originated.
3/25/2010 11:38:45 PM
^u mad?
3/25/2010 11:40:01 PM
no dumb fuckmaybe this picture wasn't taken in Raleigh.
3/25/2010 11:54:01 PM
^Dumbfuck learn to read I qualified with an if ^^ and after dealing with countless dumbfuck inbred rednecks who think they have found/ killed a "watermoccasin" in raleigh yeah I have a chip on my shoulder. It is easy to learn how to identify snakes and people seem to glorify in their ignorance of this subject.
3/26/2010 12:01:26 AM
kill it just to be safe
3/26/2010 12:02:31 AM
^ Thanks for making my point dumbfuck
3/26/2010 12:04:33 AM
They lead women to sin.Kill it.
3/26/2010 12:05:23 AM
I saw a garter snake at Lake Johnson the other day, and me and my friend stopped to let it pass so no dumb people tried to hurt it. True Story.
3/26/2010 12:06:42 AM
don't kill itttt
3/26/2010 12:07:00 AM
^^ Good job it is sad that it has come to that. I wonder how people would feel if I started randomly killing unattended dogs by beheading them with shovels. They are sure a hell of a lot more dangerous than snakes...[Edited on March 26, 2010 at 12:08 AM. Reason : asdfasd]
3/26/2010 12:08:19 AM
I'VE HAD IT WITH THESE MOTHERFUCKING SNAKES IN THIS MOTHERFUCKING THREAD
3/26/2010 12:08:43 AM
I've heard that some snakes will actually hypnotize you if you look them in the eye. That alone is reason enough to kill every one of them that you find.
3/26/2010 12:11:21 AM
^I was taught that in a BIO class here at State as a matter of fact
3/26/2010 12:13:11 AM
kill all snakes. kill all life.
3/26/2010 12:15:11 AM
that snake would have to die, venomous or not. thats just how i roll. i would rather hawks and cats deal with the mice population.
3/26/2010 12:44:55 AM
Brasky wears a live rattlesnake as a condom.
3/26/2010 12:47:19 AM
^^ And you just proved my point about stupid inbred rednecks glorying in their own ignorance...
3/26/2010 8:04:40 AM
^ha. no, i just have to work around them all the time in the east (surveying around wetlands, for example). i just don't like snakes, they will scare the shit out of you, and some of them are very aggressive. so, fuck you.

copperhead or northern water snakemy experience is that while northern water snakes CAN be that light-colored, they usually aren't...and since we do have copperheads in abundance around here, and they ARE that light, from this distance and without seeing the head very well, i'd say it could be either[Edited on March 26, 2010 at 9:40 AM. i zoomed into the head and thought it looked like a watersnake but the coloring does look kind of like this copperhead morphcopperheads are NOT a threat to humans unless you step on one and happen to be PARTICULARLY allergic to their venom

3/26/2010 11:19:18 AM
3/26/2010 11:28:03 AM
It's probably a copper headed water moccasin. I can tell by the picture and by having seen quite a few CHWMs in my time.
