I reaaaaally want to see games implement headtracking like in this video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd3-eiid-Uw .... And that kind of thing would be most effective on immersive first person games (I think horror would be the best candidate). I really couldn't give a shit about seeing in on a tiny screen while playing Nintendogs.
3/23/2010 7:02:07 AM
^ that's very cool...it's so simple, too
3/23/2010 8:12:50 AM
So how long before Sony steals this idea and puts it on the next PSP?Oh and is this an actual new handheld system or just a 3D version of the DS? I really hope it's a new system because if not it will be the fourth iteration which is kinda silly.

If this is any good then Sony needs to watch out. The PSP kind of failed.

ugh, you got me nintendo. there's no way i won't buy ocarina of time, even though i already own two copies of it.
6/16/2010 10:39:46 AM
I'm not a big fan of the 3D craze but if it's built in and the graphics are as good as they are boasting this may be a late Christmas/Birthday gift to myself.
6/16/2010 11:20:50 AM
I'm still waiting for a release date and price, but if it lets me play Starfox 64 in 3D I'll have a hard time resisting.
6/16/2010 2:18:59 PM
I hate to double post, but I was thinking about it today, and this thing has incredible potential.Imagine:- You place an augmented-reality mat on a table (with the checkerboard-looking things).- The 3DS uses the 2 front cameras to figure out exactly where it is relative to the mat.- It draws a Mario 64 level over the mat. To move the game camera you just walk around the mat/table, getting closer to zoom in.- The Mario level appears in 3-D on the screen, adding to the illusion.Or imagine it's a chess game and you can see the virtual chess peices fighting in 3-D on your table.I think I read somewhere that they had something similar to this, only it made a virtual hole in the table that enemies crawled out of and you had to aim the entire 3DS at them to shoot them.

6/17/2010 4:50:31 PM
omg the new Paper Mario will be on the 3DS
7/10/2010 4:17:22 PM
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/29/nintendo-3ds-february-26-japan/Japanese price is $300. Until that drops $100, I'll be sitting this one out.
9/30/2010 5:26:30 PM
^ Same
9/30/2010 5:46:26 PM
i agree, id rather have a ps3 for that price over a handheld, though im sure it will be really good and worth it to a lot of peopleits also sometimes worth it to wait for the 2nd generation nintendo products, you know there will be one
10/1/2010 12:23:07 AM
All you people who've wanted a Mega Man Legends 3 will have to buy this thing now.http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/29/mega-man-legends-3-heading-to-3ds/
10/14/2010 9:06:35 AM
damn, i am one of those people, legends 2 was one of my favorite games back then

Nintendo's holding a live 3DS press event right now. Announcements so far arehttp://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/19/3ds-features-only-one-friend-code/
1/19/2011 9:59:13 AM
Still wish they'd allow usernames I'll probably pick one up after they're down to $150 or so. I'm in no rush.
1/19/2011 1:00:44 PM
I'll resist until the price drops, or at least until they announce a Smash Bros game.
1/19/2011 1:24:05 PM
I'll wait until they drop the price or introduce something entirely new. Releasing a new Mario Kart, Star Fox, Metroid, Kirby, etc onto each new Nintendo system is losing its appeal and I'm not interested in old games with 3D tacked on. I would probably buy if they released a new Mario or Zelda that really makes the most of the technology though.

http://www.gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=151720Well I guess I have to get one now.
3/4/2011 1:01:59 PM
Looking forward to trying one out at PAX this weekend, specifically for Ocarina of Time and the augmented reality games.

I've got a real hard-on for OoT right now and can't decide if I want to buy this or an old N64. Much cheaper and I can play it on my tv. This also opens up the door for more classic N64 gameplay. But the graphics and the future potential of the 3DS have me interested.WHAT SHOULD I DO?
6/24/2011 9:12:35 AM
Well I just bought a 3DS for OoT and couldn't be happier. I was really surprised at how fun the built-in games are. And the 3D in Zelda is great. I'm really looking forward to playing Ocarina wherever I want, can't wait for Starfox 3D.
6/24/2011 9:44:53 AM
^^Get a gamecube and buy the OoT master quest
6/24/2011 10:23:14 AM
I gave you two great options, no one asked you to get creative!
6/24/2011 10:56:25 AM
OoT is good on it? I bought a 3DS a few months ago and haven't actually gotten any 3DS games (besides Excitebike, of course).
6/24/2011 10:57:03 AM
Buy an N64 and wait on the PSVita
6/24/2011 11:00:58 AM
6/24/2011 11:56:27 AM
bought a N64, I'm happy with this decision, I've never been a big fan of handheld systems.
6/28/2011 12:17:51 PM
wow...http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/28/3ds-price-drops-to-170-on-august-12/But Mega Man Legends 3 was cancelled [Edited on July 28, 2011 at 10:23 PM. Reason : .]
7/28/2011 10:21:32 PM
Why do they remake Mario 30000 times over, but I can't get one measly Super Metroid remake. Metroid games are few and far between, comparatively, and it makes me sad...If they announce a Super M remake for 3DS I will buy it: My first handheld since the GBA.
7/29/2011 8:26:43 AM
You can it for $170 at some Wal Marts today. If you buy the 3DS before "official" price drop on the 12th you can get 20 free games through their Ambassador program. But you have to connect the eShop. So if you buy don't just leave it sitting in the box.I personally can't justify dropping the dough when there are hardly any games I want to play on it.
8/9/2011 3:34:15 PM
^Yeah I saw this deal, and haven't had a handheld console since the GBA so I thought I'd check it out. Went to look at metacritic for 3DS games and there was basically Zelda and then a few mediocre titles. Not so sure now...
8/9/2011 3:44:15 PM
Yeah so I caved . Picked it up at Target at Brier Creek. I had to disable security on my wireless network before it would connect to the Internet. Pretty disappointing and obviously not something I'm going to stick with moving forward.
8/11/2011 5:42:13 PM
^ I had to switch my wireless to wep encryption to get it to work. Im not sure how secure wep is compared to the other stuff though. I also haven't tried anything else yet.[Edited on August 11, 2011 at 6:01 PM. Reason : ]
8/11/2011 6:00:34 PM
After I got it to connect w/o security once I turned security back on and it connects fine now. I also let the 3DS search for the network instead of manually entering the network's name, which seemed to make a difference. Yay for shitty online implementation.
8/11/2011 6:12:28 PM
The NES games are available today, but the way to get them is a little wonky:
8/31/2011 5:41:27 PM
Having the NES games has made me feel a lot better about early adopting this system. I expect I'll only end up using Mario, Zelda, and Metroid but still having them on hand is nice since my NES kicked the bucket a few years back.I also look forward to the GBA games later this year.
