Hey guys,Anyone familiar with any good free software that will burn MKV files to DVD in Windows 7 64bit?I've currently set up to convert mkv->avi and then burn AVI -> video DVD but would prefer to just go MKV->DVD.Recommendations are appreciated. Thanks

yeah it's called go to the store and buy the movie instead of pirating it. Pretty long title, but I hear it works every time

I rip all of my DVDs. When we go on vacation, I take my portable DVD player to keep my two year old occupied, and would never let her within a few feet of an original DVD, so I burn said digital files to a DVD so that when the kid ultimately scratches the hell out of it, I still have the original in perfect condition at home.So Tyler, please get off your high horse and stop assuming that anyone working with a digital format is pirating. You sound just like the RIAA/MPAA, but you're smarter than that. To the OP, I don't know of an app that'll do what you want, i ripped all of my kid's DVDs to mpeg4 avis that are compatible with both ipods and my portable DVD player, but http://www.giveawayoftheday.com seems to mostly have apps that go from one file format to another.

I get all my MKV's off the internets, does this make me l33t? EDIT: Mainly I get them there because its so much easier to let someone else do all the encoding work and just let me download.[Edited on March 22, 2010 at 2:22 PM. Reason : .]

For what its worth -- the whole reason I started this thread was in relation to TV shows, not movies -- but /whatever -- I could stream them from the network websites anytime I wanted on my computer -- I'd just rather toss them on a DVD and have them on my TV instead though. If TWC's DVR worked for crap I could just save them there and be done with it, however it fills to capacity within a week and it is not uncommon to find that a show didn't record due to a conflict -- either that, or it started late/runs over and you miss the ending.I'm sure if you saw my DVD and TV box set collection at home (legitimate, store purchased), you would realize I'm not trying to game the system. I think the last time I actually downloaded a movie was on Resnet back in the day when Bragaw had the 10MB/sec connect running (2001/2ish).BobbyDigital -- thanks for the website -- tossed it in bookmarks to keep an eye on it.duro982 -- appreciate the google search... gosh why didn't I think of that... Seriously though, I'm not a huge fan of randomly downloading free apps in the hopes of finding one that works -- something tells me I'd be more likely to find some form of malware -- thus me asking for a recommendation first quagmire02 -- I'll check the tinyurl link later -- currently at work -- would prefer to keep said job -- mystery links always concern me in that regard lol

Get these three things and you will have a nice setup, no disc's required!1) PS3 or XBOX3602) Larger Hard Drive3) PS3 Media ServerWith these items you will never need a disc that will just be thrown out in a few days. Use the 'copy' feature of the PS3 to copy files off the PS3 Media Server. Then you can play/pause/ff to your hearts content without all the buffering shit of your network.Works for me! :-)Shit another EDIT: Forgot to mention, no more software needed since PMS handels MKV's with MENCODER just fine. Enjoy.[Edited on March 22, 2010 at 2:26 PM. Reason : .]

wdtv live = media playerconnect a hard drive to it and it'll play pretty much anythingalso can stream over network locations or from media servers, etc. and is < $100i really wouldn't spend the money on a PS3 unless you actually want the PS3 for more than just playing mkv's. this will do it just as well for a lot less money. i got a 2tb hard drive and wdtv live for under $250 total.. and over half of that was the hard drive[Edited on March 22, 2010 at 3:19 PM. If you have Windows 7, you can do this with an xbox 360 arcade ($150) since mkv is natively supported in media center (you'll still want either divx or shark007 for their ac3 filters)The PS3 isn't nearly as enjoyable an experience for network streaming from a Windows box (for me anyway). Cheaper than any other media extender alternative and you can actually play games on it, use it for netflix, last.fm, etc as well

I've wanted to get a PS3 for over a year... However I generally do all of my gaming on a PC. This just helped push me over the edge. For what its worth, I was able to get everything set up last night and it worked perfectly for what I needed to do. The only downside is that I will now waste away my life with MLB, Final Fantasy, GT if it ever comes out, and I will likely pick up CoD MW2 this weekend even though I already have it for the PC. Will be nice to game with my friends who prefer first person shooters on a console. Also, odds are I will end up replacing my non HD TV I'm using in my computer/gaming room in the next month or two with a 36"-46" HD TV, so going with a PS3 means I won't have to purchase a separate blu-ray player when that time comes around as well.So perhaps it may not have been the best solution for my original problem, but it seems to be the best overall solution for my current situation Thanks again for the advice.

the ps3 doesn't natively support .mkv, so the copying to the ps3 idea won't work. MKV2VOB will sork as someone mentioned

perhaps you should read the thread.

i didnt say shit about a ps3 playing almost anything. i said a WDTV live WILL play almost anything and is a lot cheaper if all he wants to do is play mkv's.but other people did say what he needs in order to play mkv's via a ps3, mencoder seems to be the answer.
