So i just got a new to me 2003 convertible. Right now I have a k&n cold air intake on the way.

Im thinking about a catted pypes exhaust sytem with x pipe so i can get that muscle roar, or the magnaflow x pipe system.

Neither of them really seem to give that deep muscle tone im looking for (any suggestions? h pipe?)

I'm figuring i will be at about 230 rwhp with these mods (is that reasonable)

Any advice from any other stang owners

I guess Ill give a serious answer.

Go ahead and assume that all mustang exhaust systems for mustangs yield the same horsepower. Yes some may give you 2 or 3 hp more than the others but thats something you will never feel. Pick your exhaust based on sound alone. Who cares if you have 10 more HP than me if it sounds like shit. Your driving can make up that difference if needed.

With that said, H pipes and chambered mufflers (flowMasters, Mac, etc...) give the deep muscle car sound. (my preference)

X pipes and straight through mufflers(magnaflow, bassani, etc...) give the higher pitched exotic sound.

I prefer the H pipe and chambered muffler sound.

Is it worth going for headers on this car? shorty headers seem to be only 200 bux, i figure they might increase the sound.

After a few hours on u tube, i think the h pipe is the way to go.

Yeah, get what sounds good to you. No point in spending more money for a little bit more power when you can have more left over for gears or something more useful.

The firing order makes it easy for most exhaust setups to sound good.

now what I really like the sound of is a 32v with catless H pipe.

I wanted a mustang so bad when I was a kid. I still kinda want one. Are you still a douche if you have a classic?

If you going to do headers go ahead and do longtubes. You will not gain much by getting shorty headers and if your going to all the trouble of replacing the headers you might as well do it right the first time.

The later 4.6's were rated at ~260 hp iirc... with a conservative drivetrain loss of 15% you'd be looking at 220 whp. I'd say you may see 230 whp with just the intake and exhaust.

Get a new head/ cam it and have fun

op, if you do have the v6 they're only rated at 190 at the crank... with the drivetrain loss you're maybe 160 whp...

The v6s were rated at 190hp/220tq to the flywheel... intake and exhaust combined might give you a total of 15 hp...
Rated at 190 to the flywheel.. 190-15%=162hp.. + a conservative 20hp gain nets you around 180hp... so you probably have between 170-180 with intake and exhaust.. it's going to be difficult to make a decent amount of power with bolt-ons on an N/A v6.. you're best bet would probably be to get a procharger or something... or maybe a flash tuner like an sct or diablosport predator or something... that might free up a couple more hp

Yes its sadly the v6, but i still think it has alot of great potential.

The v8 was just outa the price range i was in, and i was worried about gas. Plus it seems like alot of the convertables are v6s. And this one had low imalge.

So my goal of 230 hp might be a bit off with my current mod plans. What would i need to match a stock gt? Or should i just forget the go and go all show and sound?

I think i can get GT badges on ebay, and with the dual exhaust and sound who would know?

you would be hated by all GT owners if you slapped a badge on... let alone ridiculed by anyone who knew. Never put the performance badges on a lower trim car.

Cheapest would be nitrous, otherwise forced induction. I don't know anything in depth about mustangs and their available mods so you'll have to search.

since there are so many v8 mustangs out there, every car person knows EXACTLY what they sound like and can tell one is coming from 1/2 mile away...

That being said, a v6 mustang with dual exhaust sounds completely different from a v8... however, if you just wanted it to look like a gt, you could... but as soon as you cranked the car, it would be obvious...

Most supercharger kits seem to be around 4k, for that price difference i would have afforded the gt.

There are a few places that have the nitrous kits for pretty cheap $500.

But im not sure how that all works, and i dont think those kits come with any of the safety stuff so it would be push button fast and furious style, I dont think i trust myself with that.

I mean the car is still way fast, and it has great pickup, I just want more speed.

Try adding some dilithium to the fuel tank.

if you were to describe way fast... you would say?

If you wanted to have the same power as the v8: sell the v6, buy a gt, done. You'd invest way too much doing anything else.

Please do not try to make your v6 look like a GT. You have a V6, you bought it, be proud of it.

If you want a GT then save your money and buy one.
