gonna watch the pilot as soon as the torrent finishes downloading...any David Simon fans should read this long but awesome interview in Vice magazine if you haven't already:http://www.viceland.com/int/v16n12/htdocs/david-simon-280.php
4/12/2010 11:09:14 PM
^lotta good features on him leading up to the show:http://nymag.com/arts/tv/features/65235/http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/21/magazine/21simon-t.htmlfor twoand you know man, you really need to get hbo and support this show if you like it. you can cancel when it is done. They had to fight to keep The Wire on the air b/c of its crap ratings. HBO can only give simon free rides so often before he has to start getting some ratings...[Edited on April 12, 2010 at 11:15 PM. I plan to watch the pilot this weekend, i just couldn't stay up Sunday night for the entire thing. Really looking forward to it though. and for The Wire lovers, DirecTV just released a statement saying they are going to air ALL 5 seasons of The Wire uncut, unedited, commercial free and in HD on the 101 starting in July!http://www.hitfix.com/articles/2010-4-12-directv-gets-up-on-the-wire

holy shit, the pilot was exhilarating...also Clarke Peters Indian Chief costume was badass.
4/14/2010 12:31:38 AM
not trolling here. just watched the premier tonight. why do you say it was exhilarating? I really didn't see much more than setting up characters around the first parade after a flood. exhilarating would be one of the last words that came to mind for me. honestly, didn't make me want to watch another episode - I felt no hook of emotion or plot. i did, however, feel like it did capture the overall atmosphere of post Katrina new orleans[Edited on April 14, 2010 at 1:14 AM. ^Honestly my reaction was as much visceral as it was intellectual...the characters and dialogue both had a verisimilitude that was immediately engrossing. I could certainly see how someone could be less than exhilarated by the pilot, in the same way that no one could have foreseen that The Wire would go on to become one of the greatest TV series of all time based on McNulty bucking the chain of command in The Wire's pilot. I guess what I'm trying to say is that David Simon is building towards something that is bigger and more important than the obvious themes and easy victories of a "New Orleans is a down and out city on the rebound" type of storyline. i love New Orleans and have been there a half of dozen times but i felt a little bored about the hour and half long episode.i will give anything that comes on HBO the benefit of the doubt and the acting was superb even though i thought some of it was really slow at times.
4/18/2010 11:17:12 PM
who played jenette's (the chef) father? know i recognize him/his voice but cant place it, cant find it on the net...
4/19/2010 9:42:52 PM
I'm about to watch this.So excited about Steve Zahn being in something potentially good.
4/21/2010 2:25:54 AM
Slim Charles makes an appearance in episode 2.
4/21/2010 2:40:42 AM
i did not know that steve zahn was apart of this. i must now watch it, b/c that guy is hilarious and underappreciated (not by this thread though).
4/21/2010 6:48:28 AM
oh he is hilarious in this from the get gopot smoking musician living off his woman
4/22/2010 2:33:12 PM
^i don't think you can say he's "living off" Kim Dickens' characteror maybe you did not get around to last Sunday's ep yet.[Edited on April 22, 2010 at 2:40 PM. Reason : .]
4/22/2010 2:39:45 PM
have not
4/22/2010 2:42:04 PM
there were some great Steve Zahn moments in the second ep, notably the chicken sacrifice and when he revealed his favorite breakfast spot to the tourists only to realize he had just ruined his own chance at a peaceful breakfast.[Edited on April 22, 2010 at 2:48 PM. Reason : .]

i'm loving this show. every episode is getting better and better. the ending of this past episode was great. did people really drive around in tourist buses looking at "what happened"?
4/27/2010 8:02:42 PM
this is def the best ep yetand also, you know a theme song is great when you dont fast forward through the creditsand indian red at the end there was just spectacular
4/27/2010 9:53:01 PM
Just watched the most recent episode. Fantastic. David Simon develops characters--three-dimensional, believable, intriguing, self-destructive characters--like no other. I already love the characters of Davis, the street musician, Batiste, Chief, etc.
4/28/2010 10:37:01 PM
I love how the street musician guy (cracked out James McAvoy) is totally passing at the rich people party and then he's like MICE WERE EATING PEOPLE, DOOD and totally blows it.

Several great moments/scenes from last night's episode:--When Albert is leaving the insurance office and he asks the insurance officer: "Man, how you get to sleep at night?"Insurance officer: "I drink."--When Delmond's agent (aka PREZ) is trying to convince him to go on the tour, Delmond says: "I been to Portland, nice people...but you know they clap on the 1 and 3?" (then he gives the funniest "I mean, come on" face ever)--When Slim Charles (can't remember the character's name) says to Ladonna's grandmother: "Respectfully, ma'am...I know how to jail. Your boy don't."--Two scenes with Sonny-one where the other keyboardist takes his place on stage and then he watches for a little bit and gets high and then when he comes to Annie and she's playing with that band (with a keyboardist). Sonny is very interesting--he lets all the praise he gets about his performing roll off him while dwelling on the potential failures of his music career.Anyway...I'm already not afraid to say that this is the best show currently on TV. David Simon is a god.

i'm DVR'ing each episode but just haven't had the time to sit down and watch them. It'll probably be another couple weeks but i'm definitely looking forward to a Treme marathon and then joining in on this discussion.

What is a pallid drop?
5/17/2010 8:44:06 AM
5/17/2010 10:59:25 AM
Pallid is a synonym for bland. In that context, it's one of those things where (for example) the locals know why "Red beans? It's not even Monday" is a humorous line, and so will others that are keen on New Orleans culture, but it felt a bit forced.
