Whether they be serious or comedic, Italian or Russian, mob movies are by far my favorite category. These are my favorites, if you have any recommendations for more please post them.

Godfather Trilogy
Goodfellas
Casino
Untouchables
Departed
Eastern Promises
Analyze This/Analyze That
The Whole 9/10 Yards

Comedy mob movies still count, and I loved all four of those. I also really liked Married to the Mob.

right, which is why I included The Freshman, but those 4 movies fucking suck (especially the sequels)

This is an acceptable addition, though I didn't personally enjoy it, it does have it's merits

Godfather Trilogy
Untouchables (my favorite)
Casino
Goodfellas
Once Upon a Time in America (Loooooong ass movie)
Departed (good, but over rated)

It's a stretch, but I'm going to say that The Boondock Saints semi-qualifies since they kill a shit ton of Russian mobsters.

The third one wasn't amazing, but I still liked it. It wasn't on the level of the first 2 though. Not even close.

Rick Bonnell recently compared Jack's peformance in The Departed to Deniro's in Casino

Jack made a mockey of an otherwise great movie with a dreadful performance, while Deniro delivered one of the best (if not the best) role of his career

There is no comparison

it is a stretch, and even if you consider it a mob movie are you really trying to convince me it's one of the BEST mob movies? It's a trite and horribly acted/directed morality play.

Maybe not one of the best mob movies, but I'm one of those who love it. You either love the Boondock Saints or hate it, not much in-between ground there.

Boondocks is a shit movie that got super-hyped because its fun to watch drunk and stoned at 3 AM when you're a college aged male, which is coincidentally the same demographic who buys the most movie tickets and posts the most on internet message boards

^All of those movies are crime movies NOT mob movies except New Jack City (admittedly I haven't seen Ricochet so maybe it counts), and The Sopranos is a fucking TV show man, try to keep your retardation to a minimum in this thread.

I can't believe A Bronx Tale wasn't mentioned.

Highly underrated flick.

Other notables:

Bugsy
Mobsters - A lot of people did not like this movie, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Heat is a heist movie, not a mob movie.

The other ones lafta listed are growing up in the hood/gang movies, which is a different subgenre from "mob movies"

it's decent, I wouldn't classify it as one of the best mob movies but whatever. The star is serving 10 years in prison for a burglary conviction btw.

The difference is that all the movies you listed except New Jack City are just movies about people committing crime, whereas mob movies are about people who commit crime within the framework of a larger, hierarchical criminal organization to which they are beholden.

Just thought of 2 more:
Hoodlum
Gamorra

Gangs of New York is closer to being a mob movie than Boondock Saints.

I didn't care much for Road to Perdition.

^^I have a hard time deciding between the two sometimes. Joe Peshi is fundamentally the same character in both, and I find Ray Liotta kind of annoying. The Goodfellas story is better, and better overall acting, but I liked the storytelling style of Casino, and the actual good guy/bad guy confrontation where Goodfellas only has bad guys.

Goodfellas is top tier Scorsese shit.

Casino is schlock, comparatively.

Forgot about Layer Cake. Daniel Craig FTW.

I actually like Casino more than Goodfellas though. I'm also one of those people who think Temple of Doom is the best Indiana Jones film.

^^^one thing I can say is of all the movies that ever used narration throughout, especially narration by multiple characters, those are the best two uses of the style I can think of. Fight Club is a close third.

That's a good one too, but imo not on the same level as the others. De Niro did a much better job as a narrator in Casino.

I totally agree as an overall movie, and the best performance of his career (as a lead anyway, I don't think you can compare it to Godfather II)
