Hello TWW

I'm told you all can run an online poll like nobody's business. I'm an NCSU alumna, and I hope you can help me with this project I'm involved in by voting for a historic trail in NC, the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail.

Pepsi did not produce a Superbowl ad this year and is instead giving away money to non-profits, small businesses and individuals to "change" their communities. They are looking for projects to help health, arts and culture, education, the planet, communities and... humm all things that create good things for you, with their Pepsi Refresh Everything promotion. You have probably seen the ads on TV. Here is our link:

http://www.refresheverthing.com/ovta

The Overmountain Victory Trail Association, OVTA, protects, promotes and perserves the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail, part of the National Parks. This year the funding for the National Park Service is to be cut. OVTA wants to win $250,000 to fund events for the public and students in 25 or more towns in western NC and small parts of Va,Ga, SC and TN to protect the trail and share the story of 1780 when militia rose up out of the mountains to defeat the British and turned the tide of the American Revolution.

Please register at http://www.refresheverything.com and vote for us under Arts and Culture at http://www.refresheverything.com/ovta. Vote every single day in March. I need exponential help to move OVTA up in the ranks.

thanks for any help you can give!

Donna

WHAT IS THE CONNECTION BETWEEN DONNAAA AND THE LEATHER MYSTICS?

YAY!! there are nice people here! The connection with leather myst is I went to check that website listed in one of the first guy's information. The clothing looks somewhat like the 18th century or pirate gear from earlier. Occasionally, reenactors wear things sorta like those leather laceups and boots. There were no zippers in 1780.... Usually the knee high boots are for the men! Women wear those boned stays over their blouse/chemise/nightgowns and a tight bodice with skirt attached or a simple skirt Women in 1780 in the back country did not necessarily wear the stays if could not afford them.

[Edited on March 17, 2010 at 10:08 PM. Reason : leather myst connection.]

Hi Joe!! Well, yes some, but I'm not sure we can reach rank 1 or 2 by March 31st. I think some of the OVTA national folks are disbelieving it is all about voting. They keep asking about the rules for the grant and well...we make the rules. Still it is great to see the change. I think TWW was worth about 20 points in the right direction. I have to go to a meeting next weekend and tell those old guys to get on-line!

I hope we get to roll-over into April. If not we will probably reapply in May. I least we know the project is an acceptable one.

I tried to add this website, but... http://www.ladywaisted.com/blog/?p=15
This designer is inspired by the clothing of the time. See... kind of like leather myst too .. HA!

Thank-you wolfpackgrrr and Byrn Stuff!

We will see how it goes. Last year Coke gave us $50,000 via the Active Trails grant from the National Parks Foundation. I think some of my OVT guys are feeling some kind of loyalty to them. We will spend the remainder of that money promoting, walking, teaching, and talking about the American Hiking Society's National Trails Day(r) on June 5th. But we haven't heard about funding for school kids in October for this year and I have to get on with it. Pepsi seemed like a good idea.

Anyway, we are in. If we move this proposal into rank 100 or better we are automatically continued for April. I'd like more help with that! You can vote everyday if you will at http://www.refresheverything.com/ovta

I am writing grants for the event to ask for funding from other companies too.
Eventually, it would be great to have the American Revolutionary History create tourism for the region west of Winston... well for the whole state of NC. Every county has a tale to tell expect for perhaps three. I have to keep looking. The problem is no body really knows these stories.

This year I want to get pedometers for the students. last year they walked four miles and the next day some reported they had sore muscles!!! Anyway, anything to incorporate math and science.

Do you guys have experience writing grants?

Sunday: Thanks to all of you for your continuing efforts for my Pepsi Refresh Project. We are moving up in the ranks to 168 last I saw. That's up another 10 points. I'm afraid many schools will not be able to come to our sites because of their limited budgets this year to experience fire-making, spinning, long-rifle lifestyle etc of the backcountry in 1780. That's what our project is to do, get students to the muster ground and other sites. Plan B - we go to them. It's important to me to be clear about the diversity of people involved in the victory and the difficulty of decision to split with England. It was just a big divorce to which I can relate. I found something you might like from a company in Asheville on You Tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZfRaWAtBVg
