good show, but they need to start advancing the overall plot more rather than just doing self-contained mystery of the week type episodes

love this show, but I stopped watching it the middle of season two. I've just been watching too much TV and a few shows I was following had to go on the chopping block (Fringe and Heroes).

^^ me and my BF were just talking about how they need MORE mystery of the week episodes and less plot....the plot is why I ultimately stopped watching the X-Files...missed a few episodes and didn't know what the hell was going on.

I don't know how you could want more mystery of the week episodes, all of them except like 2 or 3 this season have been like that.

^^^I lost interest in Heroes a long time ago. The latest season has been/was pretty terrible compared to the first 2. Fringe is worlds better IMO.

the problem with Fringe's mystery of the week type episodes is that they are too formulaic and really just act as filler.

New episodes return next week.

I am kinda anxious but also annoyed. They've spent 3 seasons building up to the story of how Walter brought Peter from the alternate universe. Now, when they finally decide to show it, they take a fucking 6 week vacation.

I blame fucking American Idol.

I hope they keep the retro title sequence. It was cool. But my guess it was just a special thing for the "Peter" episode because it was set in the 1980s.

Over all good episode. Answered some questions while raising new ones (now we know the full story about peter's abduction! But why is he so important to the observers?). I am excited to see where the season goes.

I'm glad they don't appear to be spending several episodes in the past...that was something that bugged me about Heroes.

I thought the makeup/digital work on Walter was fantastic...he sure did look younger.

And actually I didn't like the intro sequence that much, I hope they return to the normal one next episode.

I am hoping for a little more information on the watchers because I still don't know the point.

Last nights episode has been the best one yet IMO. Olivia (1) is hot when she's cray cray.

So I'm guessing Olivia realized the only chance she has to get back is through the Fringe division on the other side. So she is pretending to let the memory crap take effect so she can infiltrate them. Would be interesting to see double Olivias infiltrating each side.

Was a good episode. They managed to make a setup episode actually still be entertaining. I have high expectations for this season. We'll see how long the seperate Olivia storylines go before a resolution. Lot's of potential for interesting episodes in the alternate world.

In the intro they spelled Manhattan as "Manhatan" when seen superimposed on the underside of the bridge. Yes, I went there.

^^Yes, I DVR too and watch later, so I really don't pay attention when things come on. Hell I was down 6 episodes and watched them all with my wife over the last week. Kinda fun compressing it altogether and not having to wait so long between episodes.

^^Ratings aren't great, but are very consistant. The problem is Fox is a cheap ass network. They don't like to pay for elaborate sets of special effects budgets. This is what killed Dollhouse, Sarah Conner Chronicals, and most likely Fringe. Why bother spending money on these shows when they can just vomit out more game shows or "reality" garbage. Also, Fox is cleaning house this summer to make room for X Factor. I expect three or four more shows to get the ax since apparent X Factor is going to hog three primetime hours a week. The Good Guys is already dead (another Friday night execution), I expect Fringe and Lie to Me to also be gone after this season.

I think that's a misread of the situation. Fringe was regularly finishing 4th in it's timeslot...that's consistent alright, consistently bad. Calling Fox cheap for not giving a low rated show a big budget strikes me as silly but whatever. The move to Friday is kind of a double edged sword, since the ratings expectations are much lower but it's much harder to maintain an audience because people are doing other shit on Friday nights. If it does similar ratings on Friday night as it did on Thursdays I can't see it getting the axe.

Fringe was doing just fine on Tuesday nights in season 1. Then, Fox moved it to the toughest timeslot on TV (9 PM on Thursday) where it kept the same number of viewers, but was coming in fourth each week. That is not the shows fault it's poor scheduling. The move to Friday is probably a death knell for Fringe it is a show aimed at a younger demo (which are out on Friday nights) and it's a scifi themed show going up against Supernatural whic gets big ratings in a similar genre. I hope it survives, but I doubt it will.

^^I just hope they make the decision based on the + DVR ratings. A lot of Friday shows get big bumps from the +7 day DVR ratings, as like you said a lot of people do not watch live anymore. I watch a ton of TV and I watch absolutely none of it live, except sports and the news.

"‘Fringe’ goes back on the bubble, which is a heck of a lot better place to be than “likely to be canceled-ville.” At a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating on Friday, ‘Fringe’ is likely to be renewed, but the coming weeks will tell the tale. For 'Fringe' fans last night’s news as all good:

it maintained 100% of its Thursday average on a Friday
the half hours were very consistent (i.e., most people didn’t look-in for 10 minutes and then bolt)"

http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2011/01/22/fringe-fans-fantastic-friday-firefly-fun-far-from-faux-fox/79853

The early returns are promising, but it was up against repeats.

I'm pissed about the move to Friday because that is my Supernatural/Smallville night and shows that move to Fridays with the exception of the two just mentioned don't fare well. I love Fringe, hope it hangs in there, I will not be happy to see it go.

Thought Friday's episode was good.

So, the fate of two worlds will depend on which girl Peter wants to date.

And oh no one of them is pregnant!!!

Is it me, or is this show becoming a Grey's Anatomy / X-files Mashup????

last night's episode was alright, but i dunno. i feel like im having to suspend my disbelief a bit too much these days.

a man kidnaps a child from a parallel universe? okay i'll bite.

a 10 year old kid nearly drowns himself because he thinks he's from a world located the bottom of a lake? then doesn't remember it 20 years later!?

i don't if i can believe that. if peter actually believed he was from another world so much that he rejected his parents and nearly killed himself trying to get back...i think he would remember.

I mean, don't you have to assume that Walter does something to make the kids forget? Peter included? I'd believe Peter would forget about the alternate universe way before I'd bite that Olivia forgets about Walter being her doctor/teacher/instructor/guy who made her stepdad stop hitting her/whatever else.

I've seen a lot of complaining about how they would have remembered, but until we get the whole story, I'm just going to have to assume that something happens to make them lose part of their memories.
