http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/7174851/Owner Patrick O'Leary. Owns a $1.4 million dollar home and obviously a lot of dominos franchises. Says the delivery employee of the Knightdale store owes him $60 in stolen funds when he was beaten and mugged. The reason: We tell them not to carry anymore than $20 in change.Good move, major asshat. This is going to cost you a LOT more in negative publicity.[Edited on March 5, 2010 at 4:21 PM. Reason : .]

wow. what an asshole

While this treatment is wrong, the owners own success and wealth has absolutely nothing to do with it.

3/5/2010 4:37:45 PM
The owner wins the idiot award of the year, regardless of the investigation. When WRAL calls you, and asks you about making the individual pay back $60, you say "Absolutely he wont have to pay it back." This guy must have been handed money, because it looks like he has an IQ of 40.

how the hell is a pizza delivery guy expected to always have less than $20 on him? Just one deilvery could put him over $20...and they don't just go to one house each run.
3/5/2010 4:41:22 PM
How's he going to fire a guy who quit, anyway?

Hey man, I just answered the question.
3/5/2010 4:45:15 PM
Break Company RuleLose Company $Must Repay Company $pretty simple.
3/5/2010 4:48:42 PM
Simple if you have no common sense or ability to do basic math...
3/5/2010 4:49:35 PM
call me crazy but i think getting beaten and mugged is outside the usual scope of "break company rules"especially when it seems nearly impossible for a pizza delivery person to always have $20 or less on them. i just don't even understand that policy AT ALL.
3/5/2010 4:52:02 PM
he also isnt going to lose shit for business. People are going to order their pizza, get it delivered like normal. They aren't going to to through the trouble of making sure to not call the exact one(s) that this guy owns if its the one that will deliver. In short, enjoy getting mad at the mean rich guy. rawr rawr, etc
3/5/2010 4:53:43 PM
Yeah, from seeing comments online from carriers, they are saying it is a policy that is simply an 'ass covering' policy for the franchise. They state there is no way to comply with that.^ Think again... You have no appreciation of the damage a story like this can do. If even 10 families decide not to order dominos for the next few months, it cost him a lot more money than what this was worth.[Edited on March 5, 2010 at 4:54 PM. Reason : .]

the domino's in knightdale was the one where the manager was beaten to death a couple of months ago. i wonder if it was the same one?http://www.ncwanted.com/ncwanted_home/story/6774882/[Edited on March 5, 2010 at 4:56 PM. Reason : ]

3/5/2010 4:57:13 PM
I can almost guarantee this guy is already begging WRAL to run a revision stating he wont ask the guy to pay back the money.

3/5/2010 6:15:03 PM
Don't have enough facts. If he was robbed of $60 then the owner is retarded. If he was robbed of $150, and $60 what basically what if left over after deducing the cost of the runs, the $20, and the mileage and tips for the night, then I have more sympathy for the owner. If your drivers are being robbed with that much on them the rest of your drivers are bigger targets. If he stays on I could see making him pay back the other $60 over time. That said, the guy quit, so as an owner you gotta just let it go.

isnt this exactly like the time at 2am when i first got out of college and was working the late shift at steak n shake and a crew of about 20 kids cleaned the place out when i went back to make their 2nd round of shakesthey took the silverware, the plates, the glasses, their food, and never paid a dimedo you think i worried for one second if i was responsible for that? nope, and honestly i half expected the owner to argue with me about it

Even if the owner was dirt poor, it'd be a dick move to ask his employee who just got mugged to pay $60. He probably gets paid minimum wage. The fact that the owner has a $1.4 million home just makes hims a SUPER DICK.

obviously nobody read the entire article, the original story stated that the owner was waiting for the police investigation to make a final decision, and was just enforcing/making the employee aware of company policy.

^As someone who used to deliver pizza, I can confirm that this is a legit concern. I only did it for one summer, and during that time 3 employees (out of about 12) got fired. One for directly stealing (he was overcharging customers and pocketing the money), and two for falsifying their time cards, which is guess is just indirect stealing. While I would be inclined to believe someone who told me he'd been robbed, if I worked at that pizza place much longer I'd probably start to doubt the sincerity of everyone around me.I also know someone who got shot delivering pizza, but I'm pretty sure he didn't have to pay any money back.
