Don't some of you men on here play in men's open C division?[Edited on February 21, 2010 at 4:03 PM. Reason : .]

2/21/2010 5:07:51 PM
is this the oreo dunking league? peyton and eli look unbeatable.
2/21/2010 5:56:39 PM
i just registered on friday. do i have to send a check to tasl before i can be picked up by a team?

2/21/2010 10:21:21 PM
^^ Team fees are paid to the captain of whatever team picks you up. You can be picked up without paying the 27.00 NCASA player fee to TASL; however, unless you get picked up by a team and pay that fee really soon, your player pass probably won't be ready before the games begin. Also, most teams in Men's A / B and Coed A / B have already had tryouts, and there are currently over 60 names on the free agent list for Men's and 73 for Coed, so your chances of getting picked up this late are kind of slim.Anyway, Stanly Sidekicks (Co-ed A) checking in.
2/21/2010 11:01:12 PM
I am playing in Men's Open C Division too. I DID NOT get put on the Hibernian FC roster. I am on a different team. Weather and all other things permitting, mark down March 20th and May 1st and make sure you are there. That is TWW Clasico day! I haven't played organized outdoor in 13 years, organized indoor in 3 years, and outdoor pickup in 4 years. Hopefully I will be a little better by the time we meet on the field so my team doesn't get pwnt. [Edited on February 21, 2010 at 11:44 PM. Reason : .]

bunch of soccer playing pussies itt
2/22/2010 7:45:37 AM
^^ yeah, I would imagine you didn't since we've already got a full roster. Unless there's a plan to change assigned numbers, Cody's #7 and I'm #8 (I prefer to be called "The Ocho"). I promise I wont be mean to you IRL unless you start to berate me for my England support.^ yeah soccer's for fags
2/22/2010 8:14:28 AM
Don't forget me, idiot.
2/22/2010 9:19:21 AM
^^I have no clue what number I will be because the guy at TASL said he is ordering t-shirts for us with numbers and will assign numbers alphabetically from 2-21. The first last name on the alphabetical roster will get the number 2, next 3, etc. I can't wait! I haven't played organized out door in 12 1/2 years. I just hope we have a GK and some defenders on roster. Everyone likes playing M and F so far.[Edited on February 22, 2010 at 11:46 AM. Reason : .]

oh yeah and Gronke, too.he's #somewherebackondefense^yeah....that's the thing. everybody thinks they're a CM or a F.They ain't.[Edited on February 23, 2010 at 7:52 PM. Reason : ...]
2/23/2010 7:50:53 PM
I'm glad I will get to play defense because I am too out of shape right now to handle playing midfield. We had a mini practice tonight and it went ok besides the guy that wants to play goal has never played it before and doesn't look too good. The rest of the league is going to school him.
2/23/2010 8:22:40 PM
^^ Well said. I can't speak to the Men's league, but I've only seen one or two players in the entire Coed league that are competent at CM. I'm always skeptical when people tell me they play that position.[Edited on February 23, 2010 at 8:24 PM. Reason : ^^]

2/23/2010 8:25:57 PM
^^We have some guys that played in college that should be able to handle it. I'm just worried about the GK. At some point we will probably have to tell him to play defense. I'll have to give him some quick lessons in Saturdays warm up.[Edited on February 23, 2010 at 8:26 PM. Reason : .][Edited on February 23, 2010 at 8:36 PM. Reason : .]
2/23/2010 8:26:27 PM
Gotcha. Careful with the "played in college" yardstick, though. Unless they saw playing time for a high-level program, it is pretty meaningless.
2/23/2010 8:37:35 PM
^Well he was playing Men's A Division when he lived in Kentucky. Now he will be playing C Division, so that will be some what of a step down in talent level for him.
2/23/2010 8:52:15 PM
Shit, if I knew I was going to still be in Raleigh, I would have joined. My ass is getting fat and lazy sitting around all day. Is there any way to get into the league after it's started? I'm a center midfielder. (LOL j/k I'm pretty much a noob who just jerks around with a ball every once and a while/watches too much soccer on TV. I'll play whatever.)
2/23/2010 9:01:26 PM
Yeah, you can join mid-season. You will almost certainly miss an additional game or two though because it takes at least a week to get your player pass ordered (can't play without one) after you have registered.
2/23/2010 9:08:41 PM
I'm just gonna register now for Men's Open C. I think I've played enough soccer with the Mexicans to not be considered a beginner. My ball control isn't great, but I, unlike the Mexicans, actually pass the ball. Tell your team captains to pick me up. At the very least I can probably nutmeg Big4Country. QUESTION:Is there anyway to pay the NCASA fee online? I can't find a link for it.Nevermind. Looks like it has to be mailed/handed in. I hope I get picked up so I didn't just waste $27.[Edited on February 23, 2010 at 9:36 PM. Reason : .]

2/23/2010 11:22:20 PM
2/23/2010 11:43:45 PM
^^ Sucks if you have to play GK. There are two goalies on the player pool...your team captain should get on that if your current GK situation is as bad as it sounds.
2/24/2010 12:32:59 AM
^We have no team captain since Sporting Raleigh is a house team in their first season. People are trying to make me team captain, so that will probably happen. Also, our roster is full and that guy really wants to play goal for us. We can't say no at this point.
2/24/2010 12:40:09 AM
Okay, cool. Well, at least he seems enthusiastic.
2/24/2010 12:44:49 AM
^Some day when one of the other guys, or me quit the team then we can fill the roster with a real GK and not me, or the other guy.
2/24/2010 1:25:16 AM
d7freestyler is going to be thrown out of every game
2/24/2010 9:05:17 AM
^I thought that was your forte, God?Big4Country, if you become team captain, pick me up when someone leaves. To sell myself a little bit, this is how I take penalties:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQtifrlJKDc[Edited on February 24, 2010 at 1:25 PM. Reason : .]

New regulations state that any back-talk to the ref, no matter how minor, is grounds for a booking.
2/24/2010 7:20:29 PM
I should get in on this TASL league someday. i'm playing xl indoor this spring again. i've been craving some soccer since intramurals ended last semester.also, I WAS a CM back in my prime. and I was damn good at it.
2/24/2010 7:38:55 PM
i wanna play

2/24/2010 9:21:37 PM
^5What if you kick some chick in the stomach? Is that a card?Which begs the question, since this is not a coed league, will God still go Jackie Chan on opposing strikers?

It's stupid, because there's a huge difference in what is considered "dissent," and half the time it's just unconscious reactions.I mean, say you get called for a foul that you think is a mistake. Then you:a. Groanb. Throw your arms up in exasperation.c. Say, "What?!"d. Say, "Come on that was crap."e. Say, "That was a bullshit call, ref."f. Get into an actual argument with the ref. Now, a, b, c occurs all the goddamned time. Every player does that when they're fouled. It's just expected. It's not a big deal at all.d and e are upping the ante and possible grounds for bookings, depending on how much crap the ref will tolerate, but I don't think they're a big deal at all.f of course is over the line. Now, in this league, apparently a through f are all instances in which I'd get a yellow card.
2/24/2010 11:42:32 PM
Yeah, I've seen cards given for some variation of all of those reactions in TASL. I got a yellow last season for b. Ridiculous.
2/24/2010 11:54:50 PM
Well it still looks like I am going to be team captain. We are set outside of picking LB and LCB. It sounds like we may also have a GK change (that would be good). So how do you pay the ref? I read they have to be paid at the game. Does it have to be cash? How does that work when one week 20 people show up and the next week 12 people show up?
2/25/2010 12:28:12 AM
pay in cashteam fees cover the ref payment I think, so since you're on the pool team I would imagine that the refs get paid by the office?but I'm not sure.
2/25/2010 1:05:30 AM
^Great! Now you'll probably pay the ref extra to have me red carded when you play us (Sporting Raleigh).
2/25/2010 1:23:29 AM
yeah, no. I hate most of the refs to begin with. I'm going to have to bite my tongue all season long so I don't get tossed myself.
2/25/2010 9:06:39 AM
^^^ I'd agree with that. For "non-house" teams, the captain shows up before the game with cash and pays one of the linesmen ($60 for Mens). Not sure how this works with the house team. I'm guessing your referee fee was bundled with the team fee. It all depends on how much TASL charged you guys. If there is ~20 people on your team, team fees + referee fee should have been around $75 per player. If the team fee was a lot less than this (~$45), then I would think that the referee fee was not bundled with the team fee, and you and the rest of the team will have to sort that out before the first game. This is important because you will most likely have to forfeit if you are supposed to pay and don't show up with cash at the first game...Glad to hear the team is coming together.
2/25/2010 10:53:24 AM
^We paid $110 this season for 20 guys to play, so my guess is we are taken care of.
2/25/2010 12:43:28 PM
Yeah, you should be fine--with the NCASA fee and performance bond that price seems right.
