That happened to a girl I went to HS with in June of 2008, except she lived right off of an exit from 540 and the driver was a trucker who fell asleep at the wheel.
2/21/2010 5:02:01 AM
I'm so sorry to read this. Thank goodness you are okay... I can't imagine all the shit you are going to have to go through now until this all resolves...
2/21/2010 5:04:25 AM
I appreciate all the kind comments, what's the best way to upload a bunch of pics from my digital camera onto here?
2/21/2010 5:30:00 AM
Damn...did the guy have insurance? Do you?
2/21/2010 6:01:25 AM
Reason #28 to make alcohol illegal. I know most (no one) will agree with me on that, but I don't care.^^ Glad you are OK. Sorry about the nice things that got destroyed... I would be pretty miffed. So how do it work? Do you get compensated by the asshole for your losses? (regardless of whether any of you had any kind of insurance)I mean, does the state take him to court automatically, or do you have to? Make the asshole pay one way or another. As for the pics, upload them into your TWW gallery, or onto any other gallery you might have on the internet (FB, MS, photobucket, flickr, etc), and then post the URLs here within [image] tags.

^^ Durrr... I obviously missed the 'NOT', i.e., "I know most will NOT agree with me."Anyway, would you seriously like alcohol to be illegal? That's the first time I have a heard a born and bred (white?) American say that!
2/21/2010 7:08:36 AM
op: when you say your house did you mean the house you live in or actually own?
2/21/2010 7:26:46 AM
2/21/2010 7:37:04 AM
^^^Have you been to the deep south where all of the uber-conservative 'christians' live?
2/21/2010 7:54:28 AM

ncsuallday sorry to hear about the house. Glad you are ok. For pics upload them to a website then link them here. Next to the smiley icons there is a pic button where you can enter the web address for each photo.

I don't think making alcohol illegal is the answer, but I do think increasing the penalty for a DUI would fix the problem. Like 10 year automatic license suspension on the first offense, a huge fine, and some ridicuolus amount of community service hours. Right now getting one DUI isn't even that bad, especially when you can get a lawyer to reduce the severity or get you off completely.... the American way, gotta love it.I can tell you that I personally don't drive drunk because of the implifications it would have to my career if I got caught.... i.e. it would be over and everything I have worked for the last 13 years would be down the tubes. That might sound crass but let's face it, many people drive over the limit every day with >.08 BAC and nothing happens to them. The odds of getting a ticket when you are over the limit are probably less than 5% and the odds of actually getting into an accident are probably less than 1% (I am just pulling statistics out of my ass but I figure they are close.) So knowing these odds, and knowing that I could probably get off with only a small amount of pain, driving above .08 BAC would not be that big of a deal, except the consequence I face with my job. I imagine if everyone had to deal with those exact consequences or some similar punishment, then the number of intoxicated drivers would plunge.
2/21/2010 9:28:41 AM
One of my professors in law school basically told us there's a way to get anyone out of a DUI. There are very few DUI cases that he can't get dropped for $5,000. He wouldn't tell us how to do it, but I believe the dude.
2/21/2010 9:46:20 AM
high end prostitute to spend a weekend with the district attorney handling the case perhaps?? seriously not out the question.
2/21/2010 10:16:25 AM
shit, im glad your ok. i dont understand why fuckers want to drink and drive.
2/21/2010 10:27:42 AM
for some reason I read the thread topic and though "what was Hugh Laurie doing on Gorman Street?"
2/21/2010 11:04:24 AM
that sucks mani hope the driver is seriously injured or dead, fuck drunks
2/21/2010 11:14:50 AM
Damn, that's rough. Glad you are okay. Hope you get that fucker for everything he is worth, which sadly most likely is not a lot.
2/21/2010 11:29:30 AM
so where the hell are the pics
2/21/2010 11:35:28 AM
with all the money (and profit) that goes into selling alcohol I doubt there will be any increased severity for DUIs.now, on the other hand, there still remains few real alternatives (cabs, public transporation, a DD!) in a lot of situations. that's what society should be working on.
2/21/2010 11:35:54 AM
2/21/2010 11:37:33 AM
^^how would increased severity for DUIs affect alcohol sales? Also, those alternatives that you mentioned already exist. There's nothing for 'society' to work on, besides keeping these idiots off the roads. Ultimately, individuals need to make better choices or face stiffer consequences.^I tripped all over that one too.
2/21/2010 11:45:31 AM
2/21/2010 11:47:17 AM
I agree that hypothetically there'd be a lot less drunk driving, but I don't think that would necessarily mean less alcohol consumption.
2/21/2010 11:49:12 AM
Seriously. Tolerance for others' opinions and all........but you fuckers that wish for alcohol to be illegal are the dumbest pieces of shit to walk the Earth.
2/21/2010 11:52:12 AM
sux about your house
2/21/2010 11:53:21 AM
Can there be at least one thread where yall don't snag OEP's bait? Like maybe just one??
2/21/2010 11:53:55 AM
some kid i knew in highschool smashed into some house in hedingham with his jeep and almost burned the house down or some shit

2/21/2010 12:02:46 PM
Prohibition and the explosion in American organized crime would like to have a word with you.In case no one remembers the US has made booze illegal before, and it ended poorly.
2/21/2010 12:04:14 PM
2/21/2010 12:04:57 PM
One of the biggest reasons drunks don't call cabs is that they don't want to leave their car at the bar and come back and get it in the morning. It's too much of a hassle to them. Well, some cities have a service where a dude will come to you on a bike or little scooter and drive you and your car home from the bar and then leave on the bike/scooter. Brilliant.
2/21/2010 12:06:16 PM
raleigh already has that.
2/21/2010 12:08:07 PM
^^Zingo has been in raleigh almost 2 years now
2/21/2010 12:09:36 PM
problem with that is the limited radius those scooter services have + they are not super cheap.People just need to be responsible when they go out. If you drive by yourself to a bar, you fail. Learn to carpool/ dd
2/21/2010 12:10:04 PM
Well, there you go. Yet another alternative for avoiding a DUI and car into house scenario. Punish the dude that chose to drive drunk not the drink itself. Plenty of people can and do drink responsibly.
2/21/2010 12:11:29 PM
we need to focus more on prevention than punishmentjust my opinion
2/21/2010 12:12:37 PM
If alcohol was illegal, no one would get laid.
2/21/2010 12:13:09 PM
Pics or it didn't happen.
2/21/2010 12:14:09 PM
If alcohol was illegal, no one you would wouldn't get laid.
2/21/2010 12:15:49 PM
^^ Then there wouldn't be a need for social programs! Win-win!
