The First National Tea Party Convention just wrapped up headed by Sarah Palin, CPAC is now under way, and the Tea Party is setting up for the 2nd National Tea Party conference in a few months. The main GOP/CPAC speaker of the day was Dick Cheney.By all means lets turn to the people who ran Washington for so many years under Bush and supported him during that time for our new anti-Washington ideas. I think the closer we get to the elections, and the more people have to look at supporting specific GOP, not just an imagined generic anti-washington candidate, the more people are going to realize they are not so appealing, especially with the continued quality GOP leadership of the head of the republican party, Michael Steele. In NC specifically this year we get to decide whether we want to send incumbent Burr back to Washington so he can vote against anti-rape amendments, tell his family to do a bank-run whenever the economy turns sour, who who stood against Tammy Duckworth's attempts to help veterans, who is anti-choice, who thinks domestic abuse ought to be a pre-existing condition, and thinks the US constitution needs to be amended to ban gay marriage, and who has been publicly taking credit for the recovery act funds (that he voted against).

Anybody that looks up to Dick Cheney for embodying the spirit of "smaller-government" deserves to lose their right to vote. If anything Bush's fuckups are the fault of Darth Cheney and his other advisers like Rumsfeld and ashcroft.Lets not forget as Vice President Cheney was part of the 4th Branch of Government[Edited on February 19, 2010 at 7:35 AM. ^ Bush wasn't running in 2008, so, yeah..... that is meaningless. There was also an "anybody but Bush" push in 2004, and that didn't exactly workout for anybody, but Bush.

I was wondering how Supplanter would work in his anti-Burr Diatribe into this discussion. How is Kay Hagan working out as a Senator? How many corrupt Democrats are in the NC General Assembly and Governor's Mansion? I guess we should trust everything Democrats say and bow down to their legislation. Not saying I agree with Dick Cheney I think he and Obama are one in the same spend my money for something that won't benefit me. With Cheney it was the rich, and Obama its the poor. Either way I am left footing the bill since I am in the middle. Its time for a party that represents the Middle Class to rise. Kill the rich and Kill the poor.

^For all the talk about how bad Washington politicians are in so many threads (whether they be republican or democrat), the only big decision most NCers share in making this November is whether or not they prefer the incumbent, republican Senator Burr, or one of the challengers, Elaine Marshall, Ken Lewis, Marcus Williams, or Cal Cunningham.
2/19/2010 11:38:00 AM
Reminder that Burr voted against a bill that would have protected female contractors who were raped while in Iraq.

Looks like they're pinning all there hopes on people hating President Obama. The teleprompter joke that all used is 1) getting pretty old, 2) Palin uses her palm, 3) President Obama owned the GOP when he did Question Time without a teleprompter, 4) most of you idiots read that same joke over and over, one after another, off of a freaking teleprompter!I'm not sure that is the best place to pin your hopes:http://publicpolicypolling.blogspot.com/2010/02/obama-leads-gop-hopefuls.html"He's up 45-43 on Mitt Romney, 46-43 on Mike Huckabee, 50-43 on Sarah Palin, and 46-28 on John Thune.""As for Obama, his approval rating is back in positive territory for the first time in our polling since early December at 48/47. That's largely thanks to 48% approval from independents, up from 43% in mid-January."Gallup seems to agree. Other than the conservative rasmussen polling company, which likes to focus on "strongly" categories only to get emotional people like the tea party but less so for independents, President Obama seems to be doing decent and improving. That is hardly a ringing endorsement, but not enough to hang election hopes upon.[Edited on February 19, 2010 at 12:14 PM. Reason : .]

What I don't get is how someone that looks as young as Marco Rubio is a FORMER speaker of the house, and yet the GOP still holds the Florida house...what happened there (or do they have terms)? Not to mention, it's pretty hard to push yourself as an establishment outsider when you've been in politics almost consistently since you were an adult. I thought the right hated "career politicians"? Or are they just happy to have a hot latino kid to run for president some day?

There is stereotyping and name calling on both sides.I don't see how you can equate that with Ryan Sorba coming on and saying that he condemns the whole damn event because they invited some gay pride group. Surely though, you have an equivalent example of dems pulling such shenanigans....
2/20/2010 9:54:42 PM
no. calling a whole state racist is surely not on par with that the Freudian slip of "clinging to guns and religion" doesn't compare, either. ]
2/20/2010 10:01:37 PM
Neither of those were as rude or as outrightly offensive
2/20/2010 10:28:31 PM
2/20/2010 11:02:54 PM
to you, Kris. to you
2/20/2010 11:15:03 PM
I am irrelevant to the equation here. If you say "fat people are bad for society" to a fat person's face, it's far more rude and outright offensive than if you were to say it to a bike club full of healthy people. Surely you see the difference.
2/21/2010 12:48:45 AM
not at all. It's rude no matter to whom you say it.
2/21/2010 12:51:49 AM
Indeed, both are rude and highly offensive. That's not the point. The difference is:1) Racism, I hope we can all agree, is actually wrong. The only thing wrong with calling people racist (other than the rudeness), is in the case in which it is not true.2) I don't see anybody demanding to take away and restrict the rights of racists or rednecks.3) I don't see anyone protesting the funerals of racists and rednecks.
2/21/2010 11:00:27 AM
well, people do protest military funerals and, face it, you are more offended by someone being rude to one group than someone being rude to another. that's ok. there's nothing wrong with it. just admit that you are partial to one group and not to another. The slam isn't on "racists and rednecks." It's on people who disagree with the democratic party, who then get labeled as racists and rednecks. Hell, the insults given to people of religious belief are almost on par with any perceived "insult" given to homosexuals.
2/21/2010 1:56:21 PM
except that homosexuals aren't afforded the same rights as the rest of us.
2/21/2010 2:07:25 PM
Let me be clear that it was amazing that Sorba got booed off....I'm just curious how many were clapping at the same time.
2/21/2010 2:32:40 PM
^^ they aren't? I wasn't aware they didn't have the right to free speech. or the right to a fair trial. Or the right to marry. or the right of freedom of association.
2/21/2010 2:39:26 PM
they certainly aren't afforded the same rights in our military.
2/21/2010 2:40:50 PM
touche, but there is no right to serve in the military
2/21/2010 2:42:20 PM
i didn't say they couldn't serve. but that they aren't afforded the same rights when they do.and this is not to speak of marriage. but i know you say that they have the right to marry someone of the opposite sex. but that is stupid bullshit. just like black used to have the right to marry someone of their same race, right?
2/21/2010 2:43:47 PM
2/21/2010 2:55:10 PM
so if a state school doesn't allow in a student because of their race, then that's okay, simply because they're not arresting that potential student?
