I live in NOVA. I'm trying to move back to Raleigh. So I applied to a bunch of places around RTP. Within a few days, I've heard nothing back BUT I have received three calls from recruiters very interested to speak with me.... and offering me positions where I already live (NOVA). I didn't apply for a single job in this area; they were just scraping my resume off job boards (which I only uploaded in order to apply for the RTP jobs). This is extremely frustrating. Are companies that opposed to talking with out of state applicants? Or are the recruiters just looking to make a quick buck? And should I lie about my address on my resume or put a "future location" or mention my desire to relocate?

It's expensive to interview an out of state applicant. You have to pay to fly them down, house them, etc. Unless they really want to hire you and/or it's for a high paying job, you're not going to get anyone interested. It's just a hassle, sorry.

definitely wouldn't lie, so yeah putting something to the effect of "very willing to relocate" would probably work

Put down a local Raleigh address (borrow a friend's), then when they contact you explain to them that you're moving back to the area regardless of whether they hire you or not. That's what I did when I moved back from NYC and it worked pretty well.

I agree with the above poster. It's fine to use a friend's address.

Wow great advice. I was considering that but I didn't know if it would fly

Yes, you should. A couple of years ago I was going to move back to the area I grew up in. Got zero call backs with my raleigh address. i changed it to my parents' address (which is where I would have temporarily moved had i taken a job), and i had 3-4 calls the very next week. People don't want to deal with people who have to relocate. Even if they don't have to pay for it, it's a fail point that could end up wasting time and money. They're not going to find out it wasn't your actual address. And if they do, they're not going to care once you're there. Just don't screw them over and accept a job if you can't afford to move or something.

i did the same when first moving to DCits pretty standard practice

There's nothing really wrong with lying in a resume.Just don't get caught

I'm putting my parents' address on my resume. I'm tired of people ignoring my resume because I'm currently overseas

It isn't lying if you're putting a place you could reasonably expect to stay when in town. I got 0 hits when my address still said Alabama while I was applying for jobs in Virginia. Moving my address to my permanent one in NC has started to pay off. I might wind up bumping it up to my brother's address in DC.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. It's working like magic already. And the recruiters don't seem to give a damn anyway.
