So I drive 2 hours or so (depending on the location of a client) and I'm looking to purchase a new car that gets at least decent highway gas mileage. I currently drive a Nissan Sentra Spec-V. Thoughts? The Civic SI looks to be a good car, and the new Hyundai Genesis Coupe seems like a good deal for the money as well. Anything else I should consider? I'd love a BMW but I'm not sure the maintainence costs will be worth it considering the high mileage that I will be putting on.

Thanks in advance.

do you get reimbursed for the travel? do you have a car allowance?

price range? you didn't really list anything about what you want in the car other than gas mileage

Dont buy anything new if you are going to put a lot of miles on it. I bought a used sedan, put 90k miles on it in 1.5 yrs, and its now worth less than half of what i paid. Depreciation is a bitch.

If you're driving long distances a lot your best choice is an oil burner.

Definitely get a diesel car.

mk IV jetta diesel.. 50+mpg, <10k's

96-00 civic, 40 ish mpgs, <5ks

both are cheap on the upkeep as well.

getting good highway tires will help your mileage alot.

Why would you want to buy a new car for this? Since you're looking at coupe's I'm assuming you never have to shuttle around clients or anything like that (like a real estate agent would). Buy something cheap, used, and japanese for driving to work.

If you just have to have a nice new car...I'd buy the new car in addition to the work clunker (I'd suggest going the slightly used late model route though, you lose 1000s just from driving a brand new car off the lot). Then you could have it as a secondary car on your insurance (saving money) and not be driving it 500 miles a week.
