So, instead of whining like vaginas as usual and just blathering "FIX IT!", lets discuss possible hires. A few points:

- It is highly unlikely that we (or most programs) will be able to hire a big name at a big school and 1) get the results we want and 2) get good value for the coach. For example, Rick Barnes is a coach who we didn't get, is very expensive, and hasn't really had as much post season success as he should have.

- The most common way schools get good coaches is by getting guys who overachieved at lower levels

- Because recruiting is not such a factor at lower levels, you gotta draw a distinction between coaches who will be able to recruit nba-level talent and coaches who can't. This also helps with hitting the ground running and not losing a bunch of talent in the transition. Ability to recruit is the most important thing in a coach. For example, you want to avoid a guy like John Beilein who might be a good xos guy, but who can't bring in the talent.

Bruce Pearl is the example the kind of person you want to get. Consistent overachiever, teams pass the eye test for being good bball teams.

So, who you got?

** And for the sake of avoiding a lot of chicken shit comments, assume that Lee Fowler is gone **

This is for if he doesnt make the ncaas next year. Way to have an emotional reaction, though. I realize that some people just need to emote

I'd throw the bank at Mick Cronin if I were A.D.

- 9 years of assistant coaching under Huggins and Pitino
- almost 7 years of head coaching experience
- only 38 years old
- great recruiter

Brad Stevens 79-14 (47-5)
-3rd youngest coach with 30 win season
-4th coach to reach 50 wins in first 56 games

Dave Rose 117-35 (56-13)
-would definitely be awkward for both parties

Just listing some names pulled out of this thread: http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/messages/chrono/19242183/0/0/19244952

A lot of these are from major conference schools, so obviously questionable if we can get them (depends on the AD!)

Josh Pastner - memphis
Matt Painter - purdue
Mike Rice - robert morris
Travis Ford - ok st
Mike anderson - missouri
Frank Martin - K state
Tony Barbee - utep

here are some more (a year out of date):

i like the idea of sean miller, and i think he would have a vested interest in coming, but i think he's in his spot now.

also, i am in full support of lowe right now, and i hope that things turn around. i do think that a little more maturity from the team will help next year, along with several solid recruits. on the other hand, that's the same sentiment i've had about our sports for years.

I don't think Sean Miller has any interest in coaching at NC State again.

I don't think he would leave Arizona without a ridiculous sum of money thrown at him (assuming he isn't thrown out)

^^^^^ On points of feasibility, it really doesn't matter what you or any of us think. People were saying sean miller wouldn't leave xavier for anything other than pitt, his "dream job."

No one knows fuck all until they actually talk to the guy. It's like any other job -- people have any number of things that might entice them to go somewhere else, and it's the job of recruiters (the AD) to find out what they want and how to make it happen.

The worst thing you could do would be the chicken shit who is too afraid to ask the hot girl out, thereby making the probability of getting her zero.

-----

^ Gillispie still looks good, I suppose, even after getting canned by UK. Just gotta cut down on the DUIs. Definitely gonna take someone with balls to get him hired, here

Greg Marshall

ah yea I've been talking about billy gillespie with my friend for a couple of yrs now but I thought people around these parts had totally forgotten about him, if the guy gets himself back on track he could be a great hire

He's got head coaching experience, too... with Cary Academy.

*** If there is ONE coach in the country that I know we can't get but want it would be Jay Wright. He's a snappy dresser.

This is actually humorous. We're actually in the EXACT situation we had in 2006... minus the actual having competitive teams and playing in the postseason.

Les Robinson turned down a contract extension to coach until 1999.

^ I understand that we should, and i keep telling myself that, but damn, the more and more games we play the harder it gets. The best thing that can happen is for this season to end quickly.

We need somebody who has vast knowledge of all aspects of the college game. Somebody like boozie. Then he could hire the likes of beergolftile, fattony, and don oboybeeebe as assistants. Now that's a staff that would be sure to get it done.
