"Sega debuted a trailer (viewable below) for the game, showing off the fourth proper installment of the iconic side-scrolling platformer star. The teaser starts with a retrospective of the series, gradually transitioning the memorable mammal's visage to a new HD version of Sonic, with waypoints at 1991 (the original Sonic), 1992 (Sonic 2), and 1994 (Sonic 3)

The trailer also revealed a few other details about the game, most notably its platforms and release window. Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 will arrive this summer as a downloadable title on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii. "

not sure how it is going to be any different than the half dozen other 2d sonic games that have come out since sonic 3. Considering those got poor reception I don't see what can be done differently.

Retro stuff is all the rage nowadays, which is awesome. I guess companies are finally realizing that there is a lot of money to be made off of making sequels to games that came out over a decade ago that look and play just like the originals.

If this goes over big, and it will (BECAUSE MARIO DID IT, SO SONIC HAS TO DO IT).. then can we expect.. A Link to the Past 2?

This is out now. Anyone playing it? Got good reviews most places.

I tried out the demo and movement feels a little stiff. I'll pick it up once it gets down to $10.

not really a fan. the control blows hardcore; releasing the control pad while in midair should not mean "come to a complete stop"

and being able to go to any level right from the start seems...lame?

feels like they let the team that made sonic spinball have another crack at it

D+

wish square enix would apply this to the FF series, so they could focus on story more instead of fucking CG.

^ FF13 was one of the few games i never finished because i was simply too bored of it. such a waste since i was a big fan of the series until this monstrosity came out.

I will definately check out sonic 4. 10 bucks isnt too much to drop on a downloadable game, especially since i was a big sonic fan and i love a good old retro platformer.

is a huge control fail imo, and the need to revert to the controls in the original games

what?! Don't any of you remember starting Sonic 2 and playing for hours, then having to go somewhere so you leave the console on with the TV off?

this game is a piece of shit. the controls were god awful and so was the music. i dont understand why this game took months to come out instead of weeks.

Holy crap this shits all over whatever they're trying to do with Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Well, except for the fact it seems like he only remade a level. As far as I can tell it's just one guy too.

^I'm pretty sure the fan remix has made a lot more progress than just a single level... that's just all the content he's bothered to show/demo so far.

Also, given that most of Sega's good level designers clearly jumped ship a long time ago, the fan remix will likely be a lot better. Unless they've spent some money to hire a half-decent development team for once. And the fan remix was certainly better visually, what with the scripted and well-rendered background activity and the environments with just a slight hint of grit to them... not to mention some excellent shading and lighting effects.

If you found it for less than $10. The games are 2.50 each, except S&K which is 1.25. The deal is only for one day though.
