where do I look to find it? everything online seems like mumbo jumbo. Also, does anyone know of any extended plans that cover lasers?

Teacher insurance not good enough for ya?

As a person that has contacts, I have found nearly every vision plan nearly worthless. The coverage sucks and the yearly max's are normally low. I stopped carrying it this year.If you have actual problems with your eyes, you health insurance will cover it. I needed a duct iridotomy a couple of years ago, and it all went on my regular health insurance.[Edited on January 22, 2010 at 8:43 PM. Reason : ,]

usa an FSA and stop paying taxes on your vision expensesquick way to keep more of your own money
1/22/2010 8:42:49 PM
i'm pretty sure I want to get lasek so I just want to buy the insurance, have it done then cancel it after. I'm not trying to buy insurance for "insurance" i'm trying to buy insurance for "discount". that makes more sense than just paying for lasik especially if they'll pay close to half.
1/22/2010 8:45:27 PM
good luck with that. finding a vision plan that actually covers a part of lasek that is not through your employer is going to be rough.

most insurance plans dont cover lasikif you pay in cash, most doctors will take 10-20% off the billand if you use an fsa (which, if you dont have it set up yet you'll have to wait until next year) to pay for it, you'll save money tooand you can do all this in addition to insurance, if you can find a plan that covers lasik

She is probably past enrollment for her FSA, if she plans for it next year....

i already mentioned that

well her idea would work under the obama plan so its not that far fetched
1/22/2010 11:20:26 PM
why won't it work now? and i'm pretty sure after i get my eye exam I will "need" the procedure.
1/22/2010 11:42:52 PM
Yeah, I can't really feel bad for health insurance companies at all. They're pricks for the most part
1/23/2010 12:45:21 AM
Look for VSP. They will cover the cost of an eye exam yearly and will offset some of the cost of contacts or a pair of glasses. And of course, do a cost comparison. I know with mine, exam+glasses/contact order is significantly more than the cost I pay per year for the insurance.
1/23/2010 8:41:55 AM
I have VSP as well, but they do not cover anything related to lasik/lasek.As others have said, lasik coverage is going to be a specific benefit to an individual employer's plan(I believe mine covers up to $1500 towards lasik as a one time benefit). You can't go out and buy individual insurance that covers lasik. It is an elective procedure, and as such won't be covered by an individual insurance policy.[Edited on January 23, 2010 at 9:26 AM. ^^^^ lol, his point completely went over your head. Do you even realize how insurance companies work? Your treatment would be getting paid for from the pool of money contributed by 100s of thousands of other policy holders. You think its a fair to everyone else if you got to pay like 200 bucks in, get 1000s of dollars worth of treatment on a pre-existing condition, and then never pay again?
1/23/2010 2:16:54 PM
yes because the insurance company is otherwise pocketing all that money and not paying for shit.
1/23/2010 2:19:06 PM
No, they're paying for other people to receive treatment.
1/23/2010 2:24:31 PM
im sure your the first person that has ever thought of doing this and they will be oblivious to your plan.

You have to stay on for at least a year don’t you?
1/24/2010 1:36:53 PM
^ Yeah.

not sure about lasek, but you get a discount on lasik if you have BCBS for medical (log on, member services, benefits, vision, follow links), vision insurance also doesn't cover it, but does a similar discount, but BCBS was a better one for me (i had lasik 2 weeks ago)
