I'm running on a RoadRunner cable connection, 1536 kbps max download speed. Speedtest tells me that I'm getting 1385 kbps down, which is... acceptable. WHY, then, are my usenet downloads so damn slow all of a sudden? I'm getting 180 kbps max on 15 connections from Astraweb?!?!? On the T1 at school last year I routinely hit 2000kbps plus, so I feel like I should at least be able to reach 1 mbps on the same hardware. Is TWC throttling bandwidth through certain ports (i.e. 119)? Am I retarded because the solution to this problem is really easy? What is going on?

did u unblock firewall ports and port forwarding

it's not any slower for mewhat news client are you using? many of them have a throttling feature.. make sure you haven't enabled itother than that.. are you sure you're looking at things in the right units?

i believe you're confusing terminology here1536kbps != 1536Kbps1536kbps == 192Kbpsalso, if you thought resnet was served by a T1, you're retarded.http://www.ncren.net/]

Sorry I'm late here...Yes, I was putting down the wrong units there. I'm using Grabit with Astraweb, and the Astraweb account I have is unlimited speed. I'm getting 150-ish KB/s on the EXACT same setup where I get 800+ KB/s at home. Same cable plan with TWC/RoadRunner, same Linksys WRT wireless b/g router running the same cat6 cable to the same laptop. I haven't changed ports or anything, so I can't imagine that firewall, port forwarding, or anything like that would be the problem. I'm stumped.

I have my units wrong again. Sorry. Call me retarded. This isn't my specialty, nor is it my area of expertise. All I know is that things are going much slower now and I don't know the reason.

Screenshot. Sorry for the hugeness. The 155 KB/s used to run at 800+... what am I missing here?TWCRR modem to Linksys WRT router through cat6 to laptop, using Grabit and Astraweb on port 119.

You just have your units of measure confused. You're paying for a 1.5Mbit connection from TWC and you're pulling what is advertised, albeit slightly less due to the suckage of TWC.Whereas someone with 15Mbit can see speeds more like what you have in mind.[Edited on January 17, 2010 at 6:08 PM. Wait wait wait are you comparing TWC to Resnet ??? Or are you complaining that TWC has slowed down for you? 155KB/sec sounds pretty reasonable to me.

I guess maybe we have RR Turbo at my house in Fayetteville? I didn't know the speed difference between RR and RR Turbo was that great.I'm in a rental house and all I know is that we have a max download speed provision of 1536 Kbps here.[Edited on January 17, 2010 at 6:16 PM. 1536 / 8 = 192 --> Which means at 180, as you state, you are maxing out on your download speeds allowed. Other packages:Standard with PowerBoost = 7000 / 8 = ~875Turbo with PowerBoost = 10000 / 8 = ~1250Pay the extra money if you really need the faster connection. In most cases, you really don't.

I generally pull well over 1 MB/s on RR from newsgroups but I also have the turbo shit or whatever. Its awful nice to grab my usual tv shows in HD in like 5 mins each.

Exactly... Please don't tell me to JFGI, but how much more is Turbo here per month? Anyone know offhand?
