Whats next, they take over UNC?

For the record, I know they would love to take over Apex but Apex is immune to this (i did research with relative who lives in apex), due to them owning their own power distribution, which has some state laws involved saying you cant take over public infrastructure without all sorts of permits and regulations.

Im not suprised at this since cary already owns/runs most of the infrastructure in morrisville.

So will this be a Winston-Salem sort of thing. Cary-Morrisville? Or some kind of hybrid: Carysville? Morrissey? When would the merger be? How Soon is Now?

Morrisville is already surrounded by much of Cary and it will eventually become the Vatican city within a city to the unholy empire that is Cary, but I don't see Cary ever expanding its reach to the Chapel Hill/UNC area because Jordan Lake gets in the way which in addition to being a natural barrier I'm betting some wealthy people own property in that area who would have enough influence to stop Cary outside of their property limits.

Given this the relative populations it looks like Morrisville is becoming Cary whether they want to or not, regardless of what they call themselves.

Chapel Hill-Carrboro is two cities that share a bus system, and school system, and almost everything else since Carrboro was kind of part of Chapel Hill to start with (apparently they put a train track in about a mile away from the university way back when to keep it from being a distraction and so the train stop & the university both served as focal points that became two different cities only about a mile apart that share the same downtown with both being originated b/c of the university), but since the populations are a little more even, about 55,000 to 20,000 it isn't so easy for one to swallow up the other even though they are two halves of the same circle when looking at their city limits.

What's up with that one small bit of unincorporated area between Raleigh and Cary? It's directly to the east of the word "Morrisville" on that map. It's gotta be something interesting if nobody has claimed it yet.

DPK, farmland, trust me. Just above 55/highhouse and east of morrisville-carpenter road. If you have ever been to the West regional library, that's almost right next to it.

Golovko, Cary has a lot of good bragging rights on things. The flip side of it is being suburban overgrowth / hell. I've got issues when I'm sitting in traffic at 8am on a Saturday morning.

I'm a bit torn on this one. Morrisville isn't stupid and knows the inevitable is coming (it will become the next Cary/Apex/etc.). Question is whether they want to take advantage of it now, or wait another few years.

Yeah, Cary isn't actually so bad. It's nice, but generic.



This map doesn't really distinguish city limits by colors, but it is clear that Morrisville is blocking Cary from being able to grow deeper into the heart of the triangle.

dont think you are looking at the right area, you're looking west of morrisville and not east

The only difference between Cary and Morrisville is that Morrisville is not yet called Cary. Otherwise, it's just a smaller version of the same nice town, run by the same shitty people.

^I think the green area just north of that is Umstead. I think the 'unincorporated' area is RDU airport. Also, that map is really old, at least pre-dating 540 expansion beyond what's there. And Raleigh city limits have expanded quite a bit from that map. I know they extend around the north side of Umstead park and beyond as I used to live in that area.

Morrisville has a higher population of foreigners than Cary I think though. Patel is probably the most numerous last name there..

I lived in Morrisville for a while and it was like little-India - almost all of my neighbors were Indian. Apart from the regular curry smells drifting up to my apartment, I didnt mind it at all, they were mostly very quiet neighbors.

I get a little bit annoyed at bad journalism. The article quotes two population estimates that are uneven.

To set it straight, the Census Bureau's population estimates for 2008 (7/1/08) places Cary's population at 129,545 and Morrisville's at 13,699.

On the issue, I think it would save the people of Morrisville a ton of money if they because residents of Cary simply to trim the costs of government services. It makes sense for Cary in a political aspect, too, as Morrisville is right in their way. It seems to be a win-win.
