he is one of the best interviewers in the business, those interviewed respect him, and he does not ask partisan type questions and therefore is able to get a lot more info out of them that other reporters

chris matthews? really?and i don't really watch cable news, but i know that fareed zakaria kicks the crap out of the rest of them on any of the cable news networks.and it's amazing to me that most of your journalists are just tv celebs. why not put some print/internet folks on there?also, chuck todd is a chode and a half who is really only good at horse race politics (and anyone could do that really, if you suck up to enough politicians)[Edited on January 12, 2010 at 11:16 PM. Reason : .]

Maureen Dowd? I have great respect for her, particularly her work with the Lewinsky scandal, but I never thought of her as one of the best journalists out there right now (or columnists for that matter). I'm surprised you don't have some of the big hitters like Bob Woodward or some rising stars like Dana Priest who broke the Walter Reed scandal (yeah, I'm a Washington Post guy, but those are both famous print journalists who've done much for the field). Legends like Daniel Schorr. NPR radio hosts like Terry Gross and Diane Rehm who have done some incredible interviews.Your list seems overly skewed toward television journalists. There are a LOT of excellent journalists in the print and on the radio that probably have near equal influence (many mentioned above). I have a lot of respect for many of the journalists you list, but Top 10 who are alive and working...

I'll disregard the "alive and working" criteria and say that the late Robert Novak was a great journalist.
