what do you think about the resurgence of Star Trek and the fall from grace for Star Wars. 10-12 years ago Star Wars was the hot franchise looking ahead to 3 films to tell the origin stories of quite possibly the best trilogy ever. Now, a decade later those 3 films have soured the taste of Star Wars fans world wide and some of the other George Lucas SW endevours have made the franchise almost comical and juvenile. All the while Star Trek once regarded as a nerd only world has seen a rebirth into the cool with a reboot movie and really has stepped up it's game and today Star Trek > Star Wars.

I don't agree. While the Star Trek movie was certainly great compared to the prequel trilogy, there are still other aspects of the franchise to consider. Star Trek hasn't had an ongoing series in 5 years, while The Clone Wars is one of the highest rated shows on cartoon network. And while it's still years away, there's still the live action series coming.

On the video games side, Star Wars has always been stronger than Star Trek, and while Star Trek Online has been pretty lackluster, The Old Republic is being developed by Bioware and will almost certainly be a hit.

I'll give AndyMac on the video games, but Star Trek Online has actually become pretty big in its own right. Still, it doesn't compete with the awesome array of Star Wars video games that brought me through youth.

And while Star Trek hasn't had an ongoing series in a while, you can not compare the ratings or influence of The Clone Wars with any Star Trek series. And even then, Jeepin4x4
s synopsis of the franchise still stands pretty strong. The Star Wars animated movie did pretty terrible, and the series in the last five years has been so strongly skewed towards a child interest. As a long time fan I don't see it going in a good direction, and the whole thing has been soured for a lot of people.

...that being said, the Clone Wars animation mini-series done by the creators of Samurai Jack was fucking awesome and I loved it.

The Clone Wars movie didn't do well, you're right, but it made more money than Star Trek: Nemesis.

I don't know why you can't compare The Clone Wars series with Enterprise in ratings.

And yes, the Genndy Tartakovsky clone wars was very cool, but probably couldn't work in a long series. It wasn't very character driven.

It would be more fair to compare a modern movie for the series to the modern movie of another series, but obviously Star Trek would stop it.

And okay, maybe you can compare The Clone Wars to Enterprise, but considering it still lasted four seasons and 98 episodes, and has reruns 5 years after its cancellation (along with about every other Star Trek series), I'd say that the Clone Wars still has something to live up to.

The Clone Wars was never intended to be a major blockbuster in the same way the new Star Trek, the prequel trilogy, or even Nemesis was. It was a glorified pilot episode for the new series.

Oh I'm sure every studio with a small budget HOPES they pull a Blind Side or Blair Witch Project, but they don't expect it when making the movie. BTW, I was actually wrong when I said Clone Wars didn't do well in the box office.

Star Trek (2009) - Revenue $385 million, Budget $150 million
Nemisis - Revenue Revenue $67 million, Budget $60 million
The Clone Wars - Revenue $69 million, Budget $8.5 million

It's revenue wasn't spectacular, but it was very profitable.
